You will start with a flight to one of the world’s most exciting airports, Lukla Airport in Solukhumbu. The flight takes you over the Himalayas, giving you a breathtaking panoramic view of the Himalayas, including the famous Mt.Everest, standing there with its snow-clad peak in all its glory. As the flight continues, you can feel Mt. Everest grow on you. Landing at Lukla Airport is going to be a lifetime experience in itself. The altitude will hit you the moment you get off the plane.

From Lukla, you will hike for approximately 2-3 hours to reach Phakding, passing through smaller villages. Phakding is the starting point for all Everest region treks. After reaching Phakding, you are free to explore this town.

Embarking on this journey, you’ll find the trail starting with ease and gradually evolving into a challenging adventure. As you traverse the formidable Dudh Koshi, you’ll catch your first glimpse of Everest’s majesty. Continuing onward, you’ll reach Namche Bazaar, which is the capital of the Sherpa and Tibetan people, and you will enjoy and see various restaurants, cafes, hotels, banks, and internet services.

Namche Bazaar is also known as the Sherpa Capital. You can use your time to acclimatize, relax, and explore the surrounding places. Most of the trekkers prefer to get up before sunrise to view the magnificent views of Mount Everest, Thamserku, Ama Dablam, and other glorious peaks in Sagarmatha National Park. One can get a chance to observe the shadow of the mountains being projected onto the clouds above and truly appreciate their magnitude. As an energy supplier, one should try salt-butter tea and Champa, a kind of barley often consumed by the Sherpa in the region. The lively cultural Saturday market is worth a visit and is usually full of traders who are trying to desperately sell off their products.

After having your breakfast, start your trek to Debuche. The trail is full of up-hills and down-hills. The massive views of the Himalayas and the chances of spotting high-altitude animals. The trail passes through Tengboche Monastery, also called the “Monastery on the top of the hill.” It is the largest Gompa in the Everest region. You will spend some time observing the Tengboche monastery and then continue hiking until you reach Debouche.

You will head from the Debouche to Dingboche, passing through some villages, including Pangboche.

It will be an absolutely beautiful day as you make your way through the Imja Valley and follow the glacier Lobuche River down below and the snow-capped peaks out in the distance. You will descend to the river and then climb a steep uphill to Dingboche. Dingboche, also known as the summer valley of Khumbu, comprises fields enclosed by stone walls protecting crops like barley, buckwheat, and potatoes. The view from Dingboche is impressive, with the Himalayas surrounding the valley.

Today you will start your trek earlier than on other days; following the trail uphill is a bit difficult. As you trek to Chhukung, you’ll pass by many Buddhist Stupas with many prayer flags left by brave mountaineers. If you manage to hike early, you can witness a remarkable view with the sun backlighting the stupa and flags, forming a warm, golden halo around them. When you reach Chhukung, spend a night there.

Chhukung is a great place to adjust to the elevation while relaxing the body. Today, you will enjoy the best day of the entire trail! Although it is called a rest day, you will enjoy the surroundings of Chhukung. It also serves as an alternative acclimatization point for Everest Base Camp trekkers. This village provides spectacular views of snow-capped mountains, rivers, and glaciers. You also have the option to hike to Chhukung Ri, from where you can get exceptional views of Mount Lhotse (8,516m), Island Peak (6,189m), Ama Dablam (6,812m), Makalu (8,463m), and others.

Today, you need to walk quite a bit longer than in earlier times. We will cross the first pass called Kongma La (5400m). Then we will start our trail climbing up to the Niyang Khola Valley. A long screen descent brings us to the edge of the world’s famous Khumbu Glacier; the walk will gradually get easier as we cross it. After some time, you will reach Lobuche, where today’s walking ends.

Today, you will get closer to the destination, and you will find yourself a little excited. From Lobuche, you start fresh and eager to step on the foothills of Mount Ama Dablam. On the trail, you will head further to Pangboche. The walk should be easier compared to the previous day. You might even see yaks bathing in the river.  You reach Pangboche and prepare for your final destination, the Ama Dablam Base Camp.

Today is your most important day, as you are reaching your goal. The way from Pangboche to Ama Dablam Base Camp is beautiful while offering a thrilling experience. As you get closer to Ama Dablam, you can observe the details of this mountain and understand the reason behind its name – “Mother’s Necklace”. For trekkers, the Ama Dablam Base Camp trek is one of the most sought-after and enjoyed alternatives to the Everest Base Camp trek. You will cross Imja Khola before starting the ascent to Ama Dablam from Pangboche. You will reach the base camp in no time and enjoy the views from the top. The scenic beauty of MT. Everest (8,848m), Amadablam (6,812m), Lhotse (8,516m), and other peaks will impress you beyond your imagination. After reaching your goal, you will spend some time enjoying the beauty of the snow-capped mountains, and then you will head back to Pangboche.

After Breakfast, your day starts with walking mostly downhill through the Rhododendron forest. Once you get to the bottom of the hill, you cross the suspension bridge and a steep climb through the pine and Juniper forest, and the walk continues towards Namche Bazaar.

The trail takes you on a scenic journey, crossing the Dudh Kosi River, adorned with charming water-driven prayer wheels. As you wind through pine and cedar wood paths, you’ll return to Sagarmatha National Park, where you can enjoy a delightful lunch break in the picturesque Chumoa village. Continuing along the riverside to Phakding, you’ll see the snowy peaks vanish, marking the end of a challenging yet thrilling adventure that pushes your limits.

The journey then leads through a fragrant rhododendron forest with hints of evergreen oak, following the meandering Milky River (Dudh Koshi) into the horizon. After a few hours, you’ll reach Lukla, where you can relax and immerse yourself in the local culture. This trek offers a transformative experience, where the beauty of nature and personal growth come together to create an unforgettable journey.

After returning to Lukla, you will fly to Manthali or Kathmandu, depending on the ongoing trekking season. If your trek is in March, April, May, September, October, or November, you’ll board a plane to Manthali, followed by a five-hour drive to Kathmandu. For the remaining months (December, January, February, June, July, and August), you will fly from Lukla to Kathmandu directly.

Once back in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel, where you will have the day off to rest and reflect on your trip.

As your journey nears its end, you have the flexibility to choose how to spend this day. This day is a free day for you to explore Kathmandu at your leisure. Perhaps you can explore the vibrant streets of Thamel for some shopping and local cuisine or visit one of the many art galleries or museums in the city.
