The City

We will fly into the capital city of San Jose and stay for 1 night.  San Jose is the largest city in the country and considered one of the most cosmopolitan places in Latin America. It's location in the Central Valley makes for a perfect hub to venture out and visit the rest of stunning countryside, beaches and mountains. Here you'll discover great restaurants, historical neighborhoods, and open markets.

The Coast

On day 2, we'll make a scenic drive 4.5 hours to Puerto Viejo, Limon, on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. With its laid back attitude and Caribbean lifestyle, Puerto Viejo has it all: long walks on the pristine beaches, exotic flora and fauna in a wildlife refuge, snorkeling or diving among the many reefs in crystal clear waters, world-class surfing, mountain biking, kayaking and cultural visits to indigenous communities.

The Culture

African heritage is alive and well in Costa Rica. Gain a deeper awareness of the country’s Afro-Caribbean diaspora on this culturally immersive tour highlighting the coastal Afro-Costa Rican town of Puerto Viejo.

Arrival to Costa Rica, Juan Santamaria Airport. You will be met and transferred from the Airport to the Gran Hotel in San Jose.  On this evening, we'll experience San Jose’s art, and culture with a city walking tour. We’ll stroll the local market and appreciate for San Jose’s historical neighborhood. We’ll finish the evening with a 3-course welcome dinner at a favorite local restaurant that specializes in wine and gourmet food.

After breakfast, we'll check out from our hotel in San Jose and head off on a 4.5 scenic drive to the coastal town of Puerto Viejo. After checking in to Le Cameleon Hotel and free to explore the area, we'll experience an evening Afro-Caribbean Cooking Class. Side by side with a local chef, you will learn how to cook a traditional dish with healthy, natural, and organic Caribbean ingredients.

We'll have breakfast at the hotel and enjoy a morning of leisure. Feel free to indulge in a massage, beach yoga, or just relaxation. That afternoon, we’ll visit 6 food Tasting locations in the town of Puerto Viejo. We'll meet fascinating local cooks as we're immersed in Caribbean Costa Rican culture. Learn about the traditional ingredients used in their favorite dishes, and sample different foods that represent the diversity of our culinary heritage. Enjoy evening at leisure. 

Breakfast and afternoon appetizers included

 After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll visit an Indigenous homestead, led by a local and witness organic chocolate made from scratch by a member of the Bri Bri community — from plant to plate! The Bri Bri have a long history of chocolate production in the Puerto Viejo area. Finally, head about 30 minutes outside of town to a breathtaking Puerto Viejo Waterfall for a hike and refreshing swim. Enjoy evening at leisure.

After breakfast, you can partake in an optional jungle adventure.  For lunch,  we'll head out to a secret beach location where a local chef will prepare a fresh lunch on the shore as we vibe out with music and more! For our last night in paradise, we'll enjoy a special farewell dinner and live music for a fun time.
