Exploring at a more leisurely pace
As an exclusive holiday for Kelly Duffy Adventures, join me for a series of relaxing and unhurried walks that will take you to some of the most inspiring areas of inland Malaga.
From what was once known as the world's most dangerous path to the incredible karstic limestone formations at the El Torcal Natural Park, and crossing the Almnachares Gorge, voted the best official trial in Spain 2024, these relaxing walks will surprise you with how diverse and beautiful walking in Andalucía can be.
A common theme among the three walks is geology. Erosion has played a significant role in shaping the landscapes in El Torcal and El Chorro, while the mountains of the Tejeda Natural Park provide a dramatic backdrop to the Saltillo Suspension Bridge walk.
How difficult?
This holiday is designed for a leisurely exploration of unique and beautiful places on foot. While most paths and tracks we will use are easy, some challenging sections may require good balance and include loose terrain. In El Torcal, using the occasional handhold can make progress easier, and as we climb away from the suspension bridge above the Almanchares Gorge, the path is at times steep and requires handrails to aid ascent.
Overall, the walks are rated as Moderate.
When we set out each day, our walks are between 7 and 12 kilometres, with approximately 200 to 700 metres of ascent.

A circular walk in the El Torcal Natural Park.
El Torcal is an incredible karst limestone landscape that is easily explorable. The sedimentation from over 200 million years ago, compressed and compacted many kilometres under the sea, has slowly been thrust to the surface.
The prolonged action of water, ice, and wind on the limestone has created these spectacular karst formations.

This linear walk follows the initial stages of the Gran Senda de Malaga, GR-249, as it leaves the village of Canillas de Aceituno and crosses the Almanchares Gorge to the village of Sedella.
Cross the Heights of El Saltillo
Spanning the dramatic gorge carved by the Almanchares River, the remarkable El Saltillo suspension bridge delivers one of Andalucía’s most thrilling walks.
Near the whitewashed village of Canillas de Aceituno, this slender bridge stretches around 50 metres in length and just 1.2 metres in width, inviting walkers to cross high above the ravine.
Suspended some 60 metres above the riverbed, it offers sweeping views of cliffs, mountains, and the wild beauty of the Axarquía.
Part of the celebrated GR-249 Gran Senda de Málaga linking Canillas de Aceituno and Sedella, El Saltillo is an unforgettable highlight for adventurous travellers and lovers of dramatic scenery.
