About this trip

Where the mountains meet the sea

As an exclusive holiday for Kelly Duffy Adventures, join us for a relaxed and unhurried weekend of walking along one of the most spectacular stretches of Andalucía's coastline.

The mountains of the Sierra de Almijara rise directly from the Mediterranean, creating a landscape where rugged limestone ridges, hidden valleys and fragrant pine forests meet an endless horizon of blue sea. It is a place of dramatic contrasts, where every turn in the path reveals a new perspective across the coast.

Our base for the weekend is the historic seaside town of Nerja, a former fishing village that sits between the mountains and the Mediterranean. We'll be staying at the beachfront 4-star Perla Marina Hotel, where I've reserved sea view rooms for everyone joining the holiday.

Whether you're enjoying an early-morning coffee as the Mediterranean sparkles in the first light or watching the sunset paint the horizon at the end of the day, it's a wonderful place to unwind between walks.

From here, we'll explore some of the finest walking routes in the region, following ancient paths through the Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Natural Park and the spectacular Maro Cerro Gordo Natural Area.

Along the way, we'll walk sections of the coastal path linking historic watchtowers that once guarded this shoreline, visit the hilltop shrine of Cruz de Pinto high above Nerja, and venture inland to discover quiet mountain trails with far-reaching views across the Mediterranean. There will also be time to enjoy the atmosphere of the villages and coastal towns that make this part of Andalucía so special.

This is a weekend designed to showcase the remarkable meeting point of mountain and sea, combining rewarding walks, fascinating history, and some of the finest coastal scenery in southern Spain. With sea view accommodation, a few well-earned tapas stops, and the Mediterranean never far from sight, it promises to be a wonderfully relaxing few days on the coast.

How difficult?

If you enjoy walking regularly, you will find these walks moderate, with a few short sections that may be steep or involve rough terrain.

Daily walks typically range from 10 to 14 kilometres, with around 400 to 500 metres of ascent.

Most paths are well established, although there are some short sections of steeper or rougher terrain. The pace is relaxed, with plenty of opportunities to stop, take photographs, and enjoy the landscape.
