After breakfast you will go to the southern part of the country, to the Indigenous Territory of Terraba. 

Sixt rental car will get to the Colonial hotel at 8 am to provide your automatic Vehicle.

The origin of the Brörán, proper name of the Térrabas, which means mass of fermented corn, is known to be of Chibcha ancestry as well as other indigenous peoples that inhabit the South of Costa Rica. Studies indicate that the presence of these indigenous peoples over the region dates back approximately 5000 years, developing practices and knowledge techniques such as agricultural, astronomical, science, fishing, sea routes, and the manipulation of materials such as gold, clay, mud and stone spheres.

Upon arrival the local guide will welcome the group in the center of town. A brief review of the history and current affairs of the Indigenous Territory is given.

To get to the place where the petroglyph was found, we must go down a 300-meter-long path, surrounded by coffee, medicinal plants, fruit trees and timber, on the way the local guide will give us details on the use and importance of these species in the local culture, when you reach the petroglyph you can observe carefully the symbolic drawings that were carved there years ago by ancient Térraba and the meaning of these in their culture.

You will receive a presentation on the process of roasting and grinding cocoa.

Take a hike to learn about the cacao plant and its importance within the Terraba culture. Then they will explain how the seed is prepared for the process of roasting in a wood-burning stove until it is grinded with a stone or a grinding tomb, to finally enjoy a hot chocolate

Early morning you will drive towards the Osa Peninsula, specifically to Rincon, a small town in the South Pacific. El Chontal is a small Ecolodge, owned and operated by a local family of four. Doña Azucena, the chef-owner, her husband Don Jorge, and their sons Eric and David. Eric manages the property together with his father while marine biologist David focuses on keeping track of the Gulf’s dolphin population and monitoring the state of their habitat by means of amphibian biological indicators.

Today after breakfast you will have the chance to experience Golfo Dulce in a different way: on a Kayak!

4 am - Drive from El Chontal to Puerto Jimenez

5 am- Cabinas Marcelina, starts the hiking package

You will leave your car and any luggage you won´t need here.

From Cabinas Marcelina you will be transfer to Los Patos Station. Once there you will register and start the hike towards La Sirena Station. This is a 23 km hike that will take around 9 hours. Along the way you will make several strategic stops to rest, drink water, enjoy lunch, contemplate the beautiful scenery and listen to the sounds of the forest.

This hike will be in primary forest so there is going to be great chances of observing wildlife in their natural habitat. Species such as wild pigs, pumas, dantas, coatis, agoutis and lots of different birds plus a vast diversity of tropical plants. 

Once you get to La Sirena you will rest and wait for dinner.

Approximate driving time: 35 minutes from El Chontal to Cabinas Marcelina

Today you will continue to explore the trails around the Sirena Station.

At 5:00 am you will go to the mouth of the Sirena river to live a different and unforgettable dawn, between the sweet song of the birds and the relaxing sound of the sea, besides being able to see how the river ends in the sea. 

After breakfast you set out to walk the paths, Espaveles and Sirena, at the end of the route of these trails. 

During the afternoon you will go along the Rio Claro trail and here you will go through a "natural pool" where you can take a refreshing dip, after you head towards the Naranjos trail.

After breakfast you will hike back towards Puerto Jimenez town.

After breakfast drive back to the Central Valley. Enjoy the scenery and different landscapes on the way. Carara National Park, which in the Huetar indigenous language means "River of crocodiles", has the only transitional forest of the Central Pacific, which translates into diversity of flora and fauna, where species of dry and humid forests converge. It is a world-renowned ornithological destination because it has very diverse avifauna, where the Red Macaw (Ara macao) stands out, a specie that is in danger of extinction, being the second largest Psittacidae species in Costa Rica.
