About this trip

We will be embracing the beautiful change of season in picturesque Glastonbury, Ct. at The Connecticut River Valley Inn and Artists Rising Creativity Retreats. Join us for 5 days of artful nourishment, chef prepared meals on our beautiful historic property in the historic town of Glastonbury, CT with direct river access.  Guests will have 24/7 access to the studio and the grounds, with opportunities to kayak, bike, paddleboards and add-on excursions. Enjoy unlimited laughter and friendship with kindred spirits while we learn Encountering God through Color and Movement from Andrea York.

Encountering God thru Color & Movement

Since the beginning of creation God made beauty from chaos using sound, light and color.

In this creative retreat, you will meet God just as He was in the Garden of Eden. You will learn the secret language of color and movement. It will be a holistic approach to worship, using your mind, body and spirit to encounter God and worship Him.

With an emphasis on worship flags, you will learn two flag making techniques and handcraft your own worship tools that are yours to keep. You will have freedom to explore contemplative movement in wide open spaces in nature.

The teaching time will include a Biblical foundation for worship and creative expression including worship flags and movement, understanding and exploring the spiritual realm of worship, and understanding your new identity in Jesus as a worshipper. Depending on the group, there may be extended sessions as we worship God together and experience His Presence.

You will leave the retreat and know God better, know yourself more and understand the power and significance of worship.

About Andrea York

Andrea York is the Creator and Designer for Catch the Fire Worship Flags. Andrea’s worship flags are among the best handmade flags available. She has perfected the design and construction for beautiful quality that will last for years.

Andrea has always had a special relationship with color. She has the rare gift of synethesia, a psychological phenomenon of intertwining color and sound. Andrea literally “sees” color for each sound.

Throughout her life she would see colors dance on sound waves during worship, but the churches she attended did not express worship with dancing or worship flags. When she attended a church where worship flags were used, in her mid 30s, Andrea knew she had found her place.

Andrea set out to learn everything she could about worship flags from the Bible, and in the process, learned the art of flagging worship.

Today, Andrea worships around the world with her worship flags, from the coastlines of the Pacific Ocean, to the mountain tops in Tibet, and is regularly invited to teach and help draw other worshippers into a Worship Renaissance – encountering God through color and movement.

Kim‘s workshop was amazing! Through her paced tutorials and guided practice, Kim demystified the process of painting with oils while enlarging the fun and freedom of the medium. She taught us to embrace the “messy middle”, reaching outside our comfort zones, then how to bring peace to the chaos by focusing first on placing the darks and adding highlights at the end, resulting in a beautifully gratifying final product. Her ease with the paints and simple approach to teaching allowed us to succeed with our own process through a light touch and “less is more” approach. Kim’s joyful and calm demeanor offered positive encouragement and support along the way, often reminding us to banish our own inner-critic. She encouraged us to trust the process with patience and to embrace our own styles. I am eager to take another class from Kim to continue growing in my own confidence as an artist. The Connecticut River Valley Inn, hosted by Pat and Wayne, was a thoughtful artist’s retreat that was welcoming and supportive. Pat, an artist herself, designed the perfect studio space and provided the behind the scenes comforts of thoughtful and accommodating meals, beautiful surroundings, and just the right amount of engagement. It was the perfect place for painting and relaxing. Thank you Pat!!

Thank you so much for your kind review. I am in my element when I host these retreats, doing all I can to make it a wonderful experience… and, being an artist myself it is very fulfilling to meet kindred spirits in the art/creativity world. Kim is definitely a wonderful teacher. I am so happy she took me up on my invitation to her to teach at The Connecticut River Valley Inn. I am hoping she comes back again…. And I hope you do as well All the students were so much fun to have around. I was happy to serve each and every one of them.
