This overnight trip to Charlotte to experience the Annie Leibovitz Exhibit at the Mint Museum begins with an afternoon arrival at SouthPark. This is the most exclusive shopping destination in the Carolinas. Home to over 175 specialty retailers, SouthPark offers a new level of luxury and entertainment. Shop stores like Neiman Marcus, Crate & Barrel and American Girl. We spend the evening across the street from the SouthPark Mall in the recently renovated Renaissance Southpark Hotel. I chose this hotel location in SouthPark to appeal to shoppers and non-shoppers alike as an evening "change of scenery" from the coast offering relaxation and plentiful dinner choices within walking distance. The following day is busy beginning with a 90-minute narrated tour on Charlotte's "Funny Bus". The award-winning and nationally recognized Funny Bus was recently voted ‘Best Tour of Charlotte. It offers a unique blend of laughter and learning featuring local comedians showcasing the highlights of the Queen City.
Following this tour, we are dropped off at the Mint Museum for a guided tour of the Annie Leibovitz Exhibit and as well as time to take in the other Museum exhibits. The Mint Museum is a leading, innovative museum of international art and design.
The exhibit presents a compelling mix of new and rarely seen photographs alongside some of the most recognizable portraits in American culture.
This landmark exhibition celebrates Leibovitz’s illustrious 50-year career. Her legacy is one of capturing the essence of her subjects with unparalleled intimacy and artistry. Leibovitz’s images feature a remarkable roster of artists, musicians, politicians, athletes, and other influential figures. From her early black-and-white work to her more recent, painterly conceptual portraits, the exhibition showcases the breadth and depth of her creative journey.
Visitors will enjoy the exhibition in an engaging dual format, with prints on paper complemented by cutting-edge digital displays. This immersive presentation highlights both the timeless quality of her work and her embrace of new photographic technologies. See the works that define Leibovitz as one of the most significant photographers of our time.
We stop for a late lunch at Downtown Charlotte's Optimist Food Hall before traveling back to the coast.
