About this trip

Celebrate a disconnect from all that distracts in the day to day.  Immerse in nature in an unique off-grid experience.  Our program is designed to support students in an authentic natural learning environment.

The program will be  facilitated from our base camp, deep in the mountainous region of the Kootenay Boundary region.

Students will wake to the sounds so playful robins and squirrels, practice under old growth cedars, study creek side, and unwind by evening campfires under the stars.

The program is designed to follow the following elements :

Traditional and modern ethics of yoga

Meditation

Anatomy

Yoga Philosophy

Business

Nutrition

Development Of Authentic Practice

Asanas

Our base team will be providing you with a prepared and comfortable home camp.  We provide the tents / bedding / mattress / supplies.  You simply arrive with your personal belongings and your mat  / block / strap.

The team will be providing you with three vegetarian meals per day. Meals are designed with your nutrition in mind - healthy, fresh, energy sourced.

Our days will be diverse!  It's not all on the mat.  It's not all in the books.  The program is intended to be immersive and inspiring.  We will move, engage in fulfilling discussions, support one another, and celebrate all that nature has to offer - uninterrupted.

What To Expect

You can anticipate four classes via zoom in advance of your arrival.  In these zoom classes we will cover some of the lessons, to allow us more time together in relaxation while on site.

You can expect simple meals.  All of the meals are made with careful consideration to your nutrition and fueling your body in an energy sustaining way.  You can plan to enjoy plenty of hearty salads, vegetable rich soups, roasted vegetable medleys, and protein rich greens.

Fantastic sunny weather!  BUT, wit that said, there is always the possibility of rain or cool evenings.  We will not have access to a laundry service - please pack accordingly.  Those who chill easily should pack an extra blanket.

Expect a stunning background to your day.  Mountains, green surrounds, creeks in the distance and peace.  Our yoga space is natural.  Prepare for practicing on a surface that is not as consistently flat as your home studio!

A supportive peer group!  And we appreciate that from you too!  Arriving with a sense of adventure and dedication to a remarkable experience is really appreciated.  Our aim is to form a positive and uplifting learning space out in the forest!

What About Arriving?

Students will all meet in Grand Forks BC on the start date at 10 am.  Then, collectively we will travel to the site and get settled in.  Those who are flying, should plan to fly into Kelowna or Castlegar the day before the program starts.  If you are needing assistance with a shuttle service.  Please let us know so we can assist in coordination.

What Will We Cover Specifically?

The 200-hour Yoga Alliance Certified Yoga Foundations course is designed to deepen your practice and give you the tools to guide your very own dynamic, original, safe and well-rounded yoga class upon graduation. I loved my time at Kootenay Yoga School! I miss it so much and plan to go back for my Yin certification. Lisa and Addy run an amazing school, and Michelle is a fantastic teacher. She (Michelle) knows how to push yet hold space and create a psychologically safe space. She teaches a great blend of theory, practicum, anatomy, and history/philosophy while paying tribute to the Indian culture and proper Sanskrit pronunciation. She also infuses spirituality into the program and I felt like I had gone through accelerated therapy/a spiritual awakening. I highly recommend this school.

I had such an incredible time here on the island learning the ins and outs of yoga! First of all, to learn yoga in a tropical country surrounded by blue waters and jungle is my vibe. At first I was upset that we didn't have AC, but then I got acclimated and I was very comfortable. There was always people cleaning our room and bringing fresh towels and sheets. The only thing I really didn't like about the room was that there were three of us bunking together and there was very minimal space. We ate mostly vegan with the occasional sour cream, eggs and fish on the last night. The food was delicious, always on time, and with perfect presentation. The only thing I wish was that there was more protein. Even if there was protein powder in the smoothies or daily collagen shots. I felt very comfortable in this group because we were all at different levels, mostly beginner. There was a lot of patience and kindness from the teachers, creating a safe learning environment. At times the content was boring and maybe could have done with a few pictures or hands on activities. Overall I have no big complaints because in truth, I loved every second of this 200 hour training. Michelle and Marcia are incredible teachers and were very humble. Lisa is on the admin side of things and helped us with everything from the moment we step foot on the island to the moment we departed. I would recommend this school to anyone!

I’m so grateful for my time here, I was so anxious leading up to the trip being that I have not done any solo traveling since before the pandemic. But as I arrived on the property and was greeted by addy’s sunshine smile and contagious bubble personality I was instantly calmed. The property was lush and beautiful and made me feel like I was in a rain forest while also and home. I felt safe and cared the entire time I was here for the minute I can till the minute I left. With the help of my amazing guide Michelle I experienced a spiritual awakening that I didn’t know was possible. I would definitely recommend this retreat the accommodations were humble but for the price I think they were nice and clean, we even had a full kitchen and living room area. Bring lots of bug spray and sunglasses. But just book and get to this magical island as soon as possible “if not know then when”?

I have completed the 200-hour yoga teacher training with Kootenay Yoga School at their beautiful location in Isla Mujeres Mexico (a small Island in the Caribbean Sea). Where to start? Sign up and be totally comfortable that u’ll have the best experience. The location is in a jungle vibe, modest, clean & organized. The food is vegetarian, organic, super healthy prepared by a talented young lady - Addy the owner’s daughter, who works hard to make sure every dietary requirement is met. Lisa, the owner, is a professional woman who is very meticulous and follows up with every detail, making the experience worthy. The whole team, from Kandice, Silvia, to the kitchen staff are very helpful and kind. Stephania (Steff) our teacher made every lesson interesting and enjoyable, the fire and energy in her, the knowledge she shared in Anatomy, was outstanding as if a doctor is explaining. The course is intensive, however, well divided throughout the days. Steff is also flexible and no matter how tired one is, we would put the effort to be punctual in her classes and enjoy the information shared. I was lucky to be with amazing people from different countries and cultures, we clicked and had so much fun together. Yes, it’s hot and humid and u need mosquito repellent. It’s not that bad at all. The beach is 5’ walk from the school and it’s breathtaking. So is Punta Sur most easternmost point of Mexico and u get to see numerous iguanas in that region too. I felt so safe in the school and the whole island. 💜🧘🏻‍♀️
