Visit a traditional English Pub for lunch and a beer and explore some of the iconic sites of London including Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Tower of London and the Houses of Parliament. In Dublin explore iconic sites such as Trinity College, St. Patrick's Cathedral and the Guinness Brewery.

Guests are welcome and will participate in privately guided cultural activities while professional members of the group attend scheduled meetings.

AONL Mission
Professional Purpose Statement

THE AMERICAN ORGANIZATION FOR NURSE LEADERSHIP (AONL).

As the national professional organization of more than 11,000 nurse leaders, the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) is the voice of nursing leadership. Previously known as the American Organization for Nurse Executives (AONE), the organization changed its name in 2019 to better align with its core mission and vison.

MISSION

Transform health care through expert and influential nurse leadership.

VISION

Nursing leadership–one voice advancing health for all.

AONL 2022-2024 STRATEGIC PRIORITIES

- Lead, influence and support the health care workforce.

- Improve health through advocacy.

- Advance nursing leadership.

- Advance and promote value-informed health care.

- Unite nurses to achieve health equity.

The primary objective of the delegation to England and Ireland is to gain mutual understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing nurse leaders in the United States and England and Ireland. We will also examine academic nursing programs in both countries. Delegates will participate in formal and informal discussions about the topics listed below. These exchanges will facilitate increased learning and offer contributions of international understanding both professionally and personally.

The following subjects are of interest to the delegation. These topics may be further refined to incorporate the specialized interest and expertise of the individual delegates.

Health Care System

  • What are the components of the English and Irish health care system? What is the funding structure? How does this differ from the United States?
  • What is the governance structure of hospitals and health systems in England and Ireland?

Nursing Practice

  • What is the role of nursing in the health care team?
  • What is the future role of nursing and how can nursing education programs prepare nursing students for expanded roles?
  • What are the nursing workforce challenges facing each country? What are some of the strategies to address these issues?
  • What are the quality and safety issues nurses confront in their day-to-day practice?

Nursing Education

  • What is the structure of nursing education and licensure? What are the differences and similarities?
  • How does nursing education prepare students for changes in the health care environment?
  • What is the focus of professional nursing associations? Is there a nursing leadership organization?
  • Is nursing involved in national health care policy development and if so, how?

The delegates will participate in formal and informal professional discussions.

It is intended that these exchanges will facilitate increased learning for both the host professional and for the U.S. delegation, and will offer contributions of international understanding at the career and personal levels for all.

We had a fantastic time on the trip! The events and food were great, and some of us even described the activities as magical in the end with the intimate experiences.we had with the people, such as musicians, lawyers, and law professors in Ireland. It was such a great in depth exposure to Irish law, music, and culture that I thoroughly enjoyed! I felt totally immersed by the end of the trip.

We had an outstanding time. The tour throughout Ireland was well-planned, and the majority of the hotels were very good. And when there was any question about service the representatives from Nanda and our guide became quickly involved to solve problems. The events were well-planned and informative, and fun! Our guide, Kevin, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with requests from the group. He kept us on time for the events and to and from the airport. Our bus driver, Rolandas, was incredibly skilled and careful. And the coaches were comfortable. The personal interactions we had with local groups were priceless...for both the guests and the professionals.

This was a well done trip. It had a nice balance between professional and cultural events, and it truly met advertisement by linking the end of the Troubles with the influence of music

This was a great trip. Had completely different experiences every day. At first it seemed like the internal flights every couple days seemed excessive, but Columbia has so many different things to see; the flights were definitely the only way to get it done. From emeralds and the Gold Museum in Bogota; to tall palms in Salento; coffee plantations in Armenia; amazing history in Medellin; the flowers; interesting shops in Cartagena; the unique village of Prequenta; and relaxing beaches; Columbia has it all. David did a great job taking us from place to place; and lining up great local guides. Could not have been a better trip. Surpassed my expectations.
