In Slovenia beekeeping is considered to be the poetry of agriculture. It is not merely keeping bees for their honey, but much more. It is a way of life, and its diversity has ensured that Slovenia is a paradise for bees, and made beekeeping a central element of Slovenian culture.
Home to the Carniolan bee, it’s a place where internationally respected pioneers of apiculture were born or worked. It’s the cradle of modern apitherapy and a land of more than 12,500 bee houses.
Led by an apitour specialist who has been designing and leading apitours for over ten years, the program was developed in cooperation with Slovenian Beekeepers’ Association to be interactive, educational and inspiring.
Whether you just started beekeeping or you are an experience apiarist, this tour will immerse you in Slovenian bee culture and history while you explore this beautiful green land. Tour arrangements are made with the first apitour operator in Slovenia. They were at the forefront of developing apitourism in Slovenia in 2007 when they approached the Slovenian Beekeeper’s Association with a concept - to educate and train beekeepers in hospitality and tourism so that they could share their apiculture, skills and experience with visitors. They have taken on the challenge and responsibility to initiate, encourage, connect, coordinate and manage apitour activities and programs. They are also involved in the Apitourism Working Group of Apimondia with the goal of helping beekeepers all over the world share their love of bees and apiculture with visitors.
Travel insurance is strongly recommended in the unlikely event that you cannot participate in the tour. If you would like a quote for travel insurance, please use this link: https://partner.roamright.com/?AgencyCode=GlobalGourmands
