About this trip

Ashtanga Yoga Retreat:  January 24 - 27, 2019

About the retreat -

Join me at the beautiful Bell Valley Retreat Center, located about 2.5 hours North of the Bay Area. This long weekend Ashtanga yoga retreat is open to all levels of Ashtanga practitioners.  Students will have the opportunity for deep practice with guided and mysore style classes, as well as specialized workshops designed to address students' individual needs. The retreat will also include meditation, pranayama, restorative practice, and time for self-reflection. There will be ample time to slow down, eat well, and restore.

Plan to arrive on Thursday afternoon at 4 pm to set up in your room and get acquainted with the property.  We will begin with a short practice at 5:30, followed by dinner and an evening meditation after dinner.  The retreat will end with a meditation and closing circle after Sunday's practice, followed by a simple breakfast.  Departure is at 12 pm on Sunday. If you have questions about the schedule, please let me know.

Our group will have the exclusive use of the facilities and accommodations during our stay. Treat yourself! Register early as it will fill.

About Bell Valley-

Bell Valley offers a truly restorative setting for yoga retreats. It is a center for restoration—for  people and land. By gathering in nature, people can access the sensitivity, courage and vision necessary to live in alignment with the earth and amplify positive social change.

You will have access to six miles of trails that weave through the beauty and solitude of rolling hills with old growth trees and open meadows. The owner of Bell Valley will be putting in a new hot tub this Fall that will be ready in time for the retreat. You can soak in the warm tub at the end of your day of yoga, hiking, relaxing, and restoring.

Refund policy -

At time of registration for the retreat, your $400 non-refundable deposit is due. If you have to cancel before October 15 and your spot can be filled, you will receive a partial refund. After October 15, there are no refunds.

Melanie Green
Melanie Green, MA, NC, ERYT is a yoga teacher, director, and co-owner of the Berkeley Yoga Center. She has been practicing yoga for over 25 years and teaching since 2000. Melanie makes yoga accessible to all. While encouraging students to focus on their breath, drishti, and sensations, she teaches her students to deepen their practice as they honor their bodies. She values the spiritual aspects of yoga integrated with the asanas. Melanie's main teacher over the last decade has been Dena Kingburg. She has studied with her in the US as well as at Dena's home studio in Byron Bay, Australia. She also was blessed to practice with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and study with him and for that, she is forever grateful. Melanie focuses as much on the profound inner lessons of yoga: attention to the breath, letting go of thoughts and ego and perseverance through practice, as she does on the physicality of the poses. This process has been informed by Melanie's own experience with scoliosis - which is how her journey of yoga began. In each class, the student is invited to let go and have fun. Melanie's yoga background includes extensive study in Ashtanga. She has also trained in Iyengar, Pre/Postnatal and Vipassna Meditation. Her daily practice informs her teaching and gives her an abundance of experience from which to teach others. Melanie always finds ways to integrate lessons from her own yoga practice into her daily life with her children and wife. Melanie has also taught yoga to children for over a decade at many local elementary schools. Currently she teaches yoga to baseball players at the Wheelhouse Academy, the Berkeley High Mountain Biking Team, students at Jefferson Elementary and Thousand Oaks Elementary. Melanie is trained in holistic nutrition and often leads cleanses and helps clients improve their health and wellness through food. The immersion will include a nutrition component. In addition to her regularly scheduled classes, Melanie also offers private instruction and workshops.
