Tania Santiago is bring together Brazilian Artists to work with Ramón Ramos Alayo for a performance workshop in Salvador, Brazil.
Ramón Ramos Alayo, a Cuban-born dancer, teacher, choreographer and the founder and artistic director of the Alayo Dance Company and CubaCaribe. Ramos was selected by the Cuban government to study dance in Santiago de Cuba at age eleven. In 1990 he earned a masters degree in contemporary and folkloric dance and dance education from the Havana’s National School of Art. He was the principal dancer with Danza del Caribe in Santiago and Narciso Medina Contemporary Dance Company in Havana and performed in Cuba, Europe, Canada, Belize and the U.S. He teaches Cuban popular dance, Afro-Cuban modern dance and children’s movement at several local dance studios and schools. In 2001 Ramos founded Ire Ile, an all-woman Cuban popular dance group and in 2002 founded the Alayo Dance Company. As director and choreographer, his work is an innovative fusion of Afro-Cuban modern, folkloric and popular Cuban dance. Ramos has choreographed and produced eight full-length dance performances.

TThis two week dance intensive will allow students the unique opportunity to study under some of the most legendary Brasilian choreographers and dancers in area. For many students, the ability to strengthen ones technique as well as gain a deeper understanding of the cultural and religious significance of these dances is something that can truly be achieved only in Brasil.
Classes are given in the famed Teatro Miguel Santana, home to world-renowned Balé Folclórico da Bahia. After an exhilarating day of dancing, spend time on the beautiful beaches of Porto da Barra.
There is plenty of leisure time to explore the famous Bahian cuisine and take in the sights.
Classes will be daily (m - f) and will include some evenings as needed before the performance workshop, towards the end of the trip. Hotel, transportation to and from airport, studio space for classes, musicians, costume (for performance) and some cultural and travel excursions. Breakfast will also be included daily at the hotel.
