A raw nature experience driving the famous ring road of Iceland in a camper van.
Pick up your campervan and hit the road. Our first campsite is about a 2h drive away, but there’s plenty to explore on the way! Our recommendations include going hiking and taking a dip in a hot river, or visiting the Golden Circle along the way.. It’s also a good idea to stock up on some food and drinks for the van before you leave Reykjavik.
We head out to explore the south coast and all its epic waterfalls. You’ve got a smörgåsbord of amazing nature just by the road, with quick access to some scenic hikes to break up the drive. Enjoy a perfect ending to the day on the famous black beach of Vik, or perhaps go for a tandem paraglide flight into the sunset!
We’ll continue east into Vatnajökull natural park and the glacier territory. Stop at the famous glacier lagoon and walk between glistening icebergs on Diamond Beach. One of our favourite things to do is the glacier hike - it’s an incredible experience walking on the ice, seeing the ice falls and climbing through cracks with ice axes and crampons.
We continue east towards Höfn, the lobster capital of Iceland. En route, we usually stop off for a hike to Svartifoss or chill in the hot springs in Hoffel, or both! We will also visit Stokknes, a beautiful black beach before dining as a group, over an authentic lobster dinner in Höfn Harbour.
Welcome to the beautiful East Fjords of Iceland, surrounded by high mountains and waterfalls escaping from the fjord walls. We camp in Seydisfjördur, the most picturesque fjord of Iceland. This is also home to an amazing sushi restaurant serving fresh fish from the local fishermen, a great spot for dinner.
The day starts with a hike to Studlagil canyon. Then we drive through the biggest volcanic desert in Europe. Black lava fields stretch out before you, meandering through them to reach the ocean and Husavik on the other side. On the way there’s of course a hot spring to bathe in as well as a geothermal area. We finish the day in a spa with a stunning ocean view.
Set sail with us to go see whales, there’s nothing quite like seeing these magical creatures meet the ocean’s surface - and Husavik is the place to witness it! We’ll then continue to Iceland's second largest city, Akureyri. We finish the day with our very own midsummer party to celebrate the longest day of the year!
We’ll head back from our final campsite to return our vans, with a heart full of adventure! We usually meet for an unofficial closing dinner in downtown Reykjavik, to send off the week in style. The Vanlife community is very special to be part of, and we can guarantee you’ll have made lifelong friends that will be keen to share their future escapades from around the world!
