      About this trip

This tour to South Africa and Zanzibar offers the best of both worlds as you enjoy the amazing backdrop of the Table Mountain in Cape Town, skyline and culture of Johannesburg, and pristine blue ocean of East Africa.

You will start your tour in Cape Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the world which is a melting pot of cultures, rich historical and cultural heritage, and pristine white beaches that sweep along its coastline. The city is vibrant and cosmopolitan offering excellent hotels, restaurants and nightlife. Slightly further afield, are the many South African Wine Estates that offer historic, unrivalled natural beauty and some of the best wine tasting in the world.

Johannesburg is the place to go to mix big-city culture, shopping, dining and nightlife with outdoor adventures, up-close wildlife encounters and visits to historical sites. Explore caves and nature reserves, or learn the history of Apartheid, then enjoy dinner at a hip cafe or five-star restaurant. And if you're a shopper, bring an extra, empty suitcase. With malls, open-air markets and places that blend the two, you'll find plenty of unique souvenirs.

End your tour in Zanzibar, an archipelago, located in the Indian Ocean 15 miles off the coast of Tanzania, which is a breathtaking spot to escape from the world. You’ll enjoy clear, turquoise-blue water; shallow sandbars perfect for wading; and many small, nearly deserted islands virtually unvisited by tourists. Explore the World Heritage Site of Stone Town, Zanzibar City’s old quarter. Or just go beach to beach between tiny fishing villages—each one's better than the next.

Another "trip of a lifetime" completed with Away To Africa! Tiffanie and her team cultivated a wonderful VIP experience for us for our second tour of Africa. We touched all four corners of the continent through our 8-country tour over two months. The accommodations, tour guides, ground transportation, excursions and experiences were 5-star and went beyond our expectations. Any minor issues or concerns we had along the way were quickly resolved to our satisfaction - or beyond. We are already planning our THIRD return to Africa with Away To Africa for later this year. We highly recommend Away To Africa for your travels throughout the continent, and the friends who have used them following our recommendation have also been completely satisfied with their experience. The Away To Africa team is truly making dreams come true!

I can't even fully put into words how incredible this trip was. From the 5 star accommodations to the super friendly and knowledgeable tour guides, to the fact that our ENTIRE trip was planned out for us hour by hour and we didn't have to think about a THING. As a self pro-claimed control freak, I will admit it was hard for me to turn the reins over and allow Tiffanie and her team to take full control but it is a decision I do not regret and WISH all my future trips to other countries outside the continent are as seamless! Tiffanie's knowledge of the continent and her excellent customer service allowed me to curate a trip for me and my partner that was just enough adventure, just enough exploration, and just enough relaxation. This was truly a once in a lifetime trip that we will NEVER forget. I'm already planning our next trip to Mama Africa! ❤️

The overall Ghana Tour was great! I really appreciated Ghana's "on the ground"group tour guides (Rashida, Ivy, and Geroge). They were gracious and professional. The tours were excellently planned. I was; however, very disappointed with the Away to Africa organizer (Tiffanie) and her lack of transparency. Initially, the communication was great, but when we were in Ghana, I felt her lack of communication and inability to address her clients' issues/concerns were very unprofessional and disheartening. I totally understand that issues will come up and things happen beyond someone's control, but it is imperative to be transparent with your clients. In fact, I have still yet to hear back from the organizer regarding a refund that was owed to me. Overall, the trip was great and I will definitely go back to Ghana again.

Hello Monique. Thank you for your review and glad that you enjoyed the tour. Please keep in mind that the organizer, Tiffanie, is an organizer during pre-tour. The tour is designed for you to connect and enjoy the continent, more specifically Ghana, by spending time with people from the community and country you are visiting. We intentionally partner with local SME's and tour partners so that you receive an authentic Ghanaian experience. Our organizer cannot provide this experience for you. We take full responsibility for any lack of communication and information you did not receive but please understand that the organizer does not travel on tour nor engage with clients once the tour begins. As you mentioned, we place faith in our knowledgeable team on the ground and they are skilled enough to take care of the groups' requests, concerns and complaints. We are unsure of what you mean regarding lack of transparency because all costs of the tour are identified in writing throughout Wetravel. The refund you are referencing a refund our company voluntarily offered your group for upgrades to attend parties in Ghana. Again, thank you for your feedback and we will keep this in mind for future tours.

My sister and I took our second trip with Away To Africa and it did not disappoint. Not in our wildest dreams could we imagine visiting Benin & Togo. On a whim, we decided to book the tour. Our tour manager Jeremias was fabulous. We had some interesting moments during our travels, but Jeremias handled everything that came our way with care and calm. He provided an educational tour that offered a glimpse into the history & culture both countries. We were surprised by the religious aspects of Benin & Togo, both countries practice Voodoo. it was fascinating learning the history & practices of the religion within both countries. It was comforting at times, since we are from the Big Easy where Voodoo is also practiced. We visited places of worship- the Snake Temple in Ouidah Benin, and the Fetish market in Togo. We enjoyed learning more about the Dahomey Kingdom of Benin. The large statue of the women warrior located right next to the hotel was spectacular. The history of slavery rounded out our trip with a visit to the hidden Slave House of Agbodrafo in Togo. Two highlights however were the Stilt Village in Ganvie in Benin (we love to see traditional dances), and the Traditional Village in Togoville. The cities of both Lome & Cotonou are lively. Big cities, good food. Thanks Tiffanie and team for another great experience! To be able to see Africa continues to be our dreams come true! We encourage a trip to these two countries. Sincerely, Twins
