Away to Africa is excited to introduce our 'Best of Two Islands' Tour highlighting the beautiful islands of Lamu and Zanzibar just in time for end of the year celebrations.

You will begin this tour in Zanzibar, or the ‘black coast’, is a Tanzanian archipelago off the coast of East Africa. Boasting beautiful beaches, Zanzibar is the perfect place to find relaxation. Walk through the cobblestone streets of Stone Town before learning of the East African slave trade. Wake up oceanfront in Nungwi, spend a day out in the ocean on our Safari Blue Tour and even spend time swimming with large sea turtles.

Next you will travel to the vibrant city of Nairobi for a couple of days before heading to the quaint archipelago of islands known as Lamu. Spend time getting lost in the walkways of Old Lamu Town as this friendly town offers a hidden gem around every corner. Enjoy a dhow experience as you sail through the mangroves or spend your time relaxing on the white sands of Manda Island...either way you will definitely leave with a piece of Lamu in your heart.

Ring in the New Year dancing on the beach under the stars of East Africa. What better way to introduce a blissful year that 2021 has to offer?

Stone Town & Spice Farm
After breakfast your personal Away to Africa driver will pick you up to head to Stone Town and learn the history of Zanzibar serving as a transit for slaves in the East African Slave Trade.

Afterwards you will travel into town and for your Spice Tour where you will question if you are in Africa or Jamaica. Smell and taste the seasonings and fruits before sitting to have a hearty lunch and fresh fruit at the conclusion of your tour.

Safari Blue Tour
We hope you are prepared to swim as today you will go snorkeling on our guided, Safari Blue Tour. Travel to three different banks that disappear upon sunset. View the beautiful coral and fish as you snorkel and swim in the beautiful sea.

Afterwards, you will have a special seafood lunch prepared for you before heading to the natural lagoon and heading back to shore.

Sherehe Ya Ufu (Beach Party)
Today is all relaxation and fun! Spend the afternoon with friends listening to music, playing beach futbol and volleyball, or yoga. Enjoy the beach and sunshine while reading a book or napping on a hammock. Have drinks on Away to Africa during your beachside lunch.

You’ll close the night on an evening cruise watching the African sunset over the Indian Ocean. Take time and reflect on your visit to Zanzibar.

Giraffe Centre & Elephant Orphanage
This morning you will take in the sites and maybe some kisses from giraffes at the Giraffe Center. Spend time with the elephants from the Elephant Sanctuary in Nairobi National Park and then visit the Masai Market for a bit of shopping.

Wind down the evening with a traditional dinner.

Explore Lamu & Drumming
Today you will venture to the more vibrant area, Lamu Town.

Walk the cobblestone alleyways of Lamu, learn Swahili and the history and culture of the island that is known for its serenity – and absence of cars.

After lunch and we will meet with a group of young drummers from town who will teach you how to drum and learn a few Swahili dances.

Sail Away & New Years Eve
Sleep in late today and spend your day as you please or relaxing on the beach.

Take an early evening Dhow sail as you watch the sunset for the last day of 2020. Enjoy fresh fruit as we sail through the mangroves and listen to music.

Afterwards you relax beachside for dinner before heading out to the New Years party on the beach. Ring in the New Year watching shooting stars and dancing on the beach!

The journey started the moment I connected with ‘Away to Africa’, our first interaction left me both excited and inspired. I started mind travelling on what could be, which can be a risky component of travel, as it sets an expectation in motion. After various calls/discussions, it became apparent that Tiffanie and her team wanted to get to the root of what we actually looking to get out of the trip, additionally she was learning about who we are, and what we stand for, so that she can put all the pieces of the puzzle together based on our needs and our values. This did not feel templated, this felt personal. This definitely was not cookie cutter and the trip was set up to provide flexibility where we needed it, which was perfect for us. The moment we arrived we were well taken care of, everything went to plan and beyond, it was the little unexpected details that made the trip from good to great. They adjusted to the trip according and pivoted where they needed to, therefore paying close attention to how we were each day (energy wise – the jet lag from Asia was brutal), and made a plan accordingly and with a smile. Nothing was forced or felt forced. They made adjustments, as they could and as they needed too according to the situation we were facing. Ghana was great, Accra was great, felt like another world. What makes the place is: It’s history, it’s music and mostly it’s people. The people make it so special, the genuine kindness, the joy, the humor, the stories and the love. That’s where the experience lies. There is a buzz happening at the moment and I can’t wait to go back in the future. A big shout out to the Away to Africa team that took care of us on ground. KB, Jackson, you gave us a piece of your paradise and we are grateful and humbled for it. Tiffanie, thank you for getting us there, thank you for hearing us out. You helped create a forever memory for my father, brother and I. And that is beyond special….

I had the best time of my life while in Egypt and it enriched my soul deeply. This Away to Africa tour was well organized and curated with purpose. The experiences were all top-tier luxury and worth the value. Each day was full of new adventures with well-informed tour guides who were friendly, fun, and educational. When visiting the pyramids, it was like the ancient Gods and Goddesses were singing and welcoming me with praises (For real...I meditated and I could hear a faint hymn and it was surreal). One of the most authentic experiences that I enjoyed was having dinner with a local Egyptian family to enjoy the savory tastes and flavors of Egyptian food. I also enjoyed a yacht excursion on the Red Sea and relaxing at the private Mahmya Island beach resort. I am so glad that I chose Away to Africa because I had a worry-free epic experience and memories that will last a lifetime.

I just completed my second tour and third country visit with Away to Africa and I am grateful for this service. To make such beautiful memories across the continent of Africa is a dream come true. Tiffanie and her team provided professional and thorough insight about the King and Queens tour from the very beginning. I felt adequately prepared before my visit to Egypt as the team answered each of my questions promptly and thoroughly. Tiffanie and her team continually show that they care about my experience on each tour. They map out every detail so that guests don’t have to worry about anything. The accommodations are always comfortable. The team of drivers are prompt and the native guides Tiffanie hires really knows their stuff. I’m also grateful that the other guests who have been on the same tours that I’ve joined have been pleasant. A good group makes a tour with A2A even better. There was one hiccup with the weather in Egypt that prevented us from being able to do the hot air balloon. Tiffanie’s team kept us in the loop and offered a full refund for the hot air balloon before we had even left the country. Her team handles pressure well and their response made me feel respected as a client. I will be booking another tour with Away to Africa and I’m excited to make more memories in Africa!
