Welcome to Argentina! During Week One of Viva Adventures' Two-Week Argentina Series, we will explore two out of the four main regions: Iguazu and Northwest Argentina. The focus of this trip is cultural learning, delicious food & wine, and seeing the vast and varied landscapes while also enjoying some moderate physical activity. You can view and add on the second week of the trip (to Argentina's Patagonia region) here.
In Iguazu, we will enjoy one of the seven wonders of the world — the largest waterfall system in the entire world which encompasses both Argentinian and Brazilian territory. The Argentine side of the Iguazu Falls, within the Iguazu National Park, which covers an area of 67,000 hectares; one of the first protected areas in America. They have been declared Natural Heritage of Mankind by UNESCO in 1984. The Falls are made up of 275 waterfalls tumbling down from an average 70m heigh cliff and immersed in the Subtropical Atlantic Rainforest.
After that, we will visit the Argentinian Northwest, and off-the-beaten track destination that is considered a hidden gem by many. Unbelievable variety is commonplace in Argentina’s northwest: jaw-dropping mountain vistas; canyons that turn polychromatic in the sunlight; lush cloud forests and salt pans, like great mirrors, that reflect haunting and beautiful skyscapes. Both indigenous and colonial traditions remain strong in Argentina, and in its rural communities, the rhythm of life has remained unchanged for generations.
Argentina is the second largest country in South America and the eighth largest in the world, spanning almost 5,000 kilometers from the tropics in the north to the sub-Antarctic in the south. It has a variety of landscapes, including the Andes mountains, the Pampas plains, deserts, high plateaus, jungle and thousands of miles of Atlantic coastline.
Argentina's cuisine is influenced by Italian and Spanish cultures and is known for its high-quality beef, cheeses, olives, and cured meats. This cultural heritage combines with a unique altitude terroir to produce the stunning Argentine wines. Stretching from the northern border to northern Patagonia, the high Andes valleys are home to unique Malbecs, Cabernets, Syrahs, and Pinots.
