Welcome to Argentina! During Week Two of Viva Adventures' Two-Week Argentina Series, we will explore the world-famous Patagonia region. The focus of this trip is trekking and outdoor adventure, and will be bolstered with the comfort of 4 and 5 star lodging options, the nourishment of delicious and local food, and on the backdrop of the breathtaking landscape of Patagonia. You can view and add on the first week of the trip (to Iguazu & Northwest Argentina) here.
Patagonia is known as the "end of the world" being as it is one of the southernmost inhabited landmasses in the world. It is huge — comprising over 10 million acres in both Argentina and Chile (more than three times the size of the Yosemite and Yellowstone parks combined). The Argentinian region of Patagonia is home to most of the country's natural UNESCO sites such as Parque National los Glaciares, Perito Moreno Glacier, and Pinturas River. Patagonia also has an amazing history: archaeological discoveries have dated human habitation in this region to more than 12,000 years ago. The most famous find, the Cave of Hands (Cuevas de las Manos), is dated at 8,000 BC.
You will be amazed by the scenery that Patagonia has to offer, and our trip will feature a great cross section: staggering mountain peaks and passes, glaciers, steppes, lakes/lagunas, rivers, massifs, deserts, plains, and fossil canyons. With views like these, you will be torn between wanting to take photos to share with the world and simply taking in the sights with your own eyes!
Argentina is the second largest country in South America and the eighth largest in the world, spanning almost 5,000 kilometers from the tropics in the north to the sub-Antarctic in the south. It has a variety of landscapes, including the Andes mountains, the Pampas plains, deserts, high plateaus, jungle and thousands of miles of Atlantic coastline.
Argentina's cuisine is influenced by Italian and Spanish cultures and is known for its high-quality beef, cheeses, olives, and cured meats. This cultural heritage combines with a unique altitude terroir to produce the stunning Argentine wines. Stretching from the northern border to northern Patagonia, the high Andes valleys are home to unique Malbecs, Cabernets, Syrahs, and Pinots.
