About this trip

AZORES: AN ATLANTEAN REMEMBRANCE

A Sacred Journey through Water, Fire, Air & Stone

A carefully curated pilgrimage through four islands of the Azores, held during the Autumn Equinox from 21st September to 1st October 2026.

Led by Cristina Moreira, with the support of Lúcia de Brito Franco and Fos Ferreira Rosa, this journey invites a small group into a deep exploration of the living memory of the Atlantic - through ancient mysterious sites, volcanic landscapes, hot springs, oceanic horizons, astrology, cosmology, and the elemental forces of water, fire, air, and stone.

Moving through Terceira, Faial, Pico, and São Miguel, we will enter the Azores as a threshold place: islands rising from the Atlantic like mountain peaks of an ancient land now beneath the sea. Together, we will explore the mysteries of landscape, myth, ancestral memory, and the relationship between sky, stone, and soul.

This is an invitation to an intimate cultural and contemplative journey of remembrance, beauty, and reconnection.

An artist and painter, Lúcia’s work is inspired by encounters with nature, both human and wild. A significant part of her artistic practice is dedicated to the sea, often explored from an underwater perspective through her experience as a freediver.

WHAT TO BRING:

The weather in the Azores during our journey, 21 September - 1 October, is generally mild and pleasant, but the islands are famous for their rapidly changing Atlantic weather - sunshine, mist, wind, and rain can sometimes all appear within the same day. At sea level, you can generally expect daytime temperatures of around 20–25°C (68–77°F), with evenings and cooler days around 16–20°C (61–68°F); temperatures can feel significantly cooler at higher elevations or in windy and wet conditions.

We recommend packing in layers: comfortable lightweight clothing, a warm sweater or fleece, a waterproof and windproof jacket, comfortable walking or hiking shoes with good grip, and an extra pair of shoes if possible. Please also bring a small daypack, reusable water bottle, sun protection, hat, sunglasses, swimsuit and sandals for thermal pools and bathing areas, and a compact umbrella if you like. As we will spend considerable time outdoors exploring volcanic landscapes, trails, caves, sacred and archaeological sites, please come prepared for uneven and sometimes muddy terrain. A light scarf or shawl and a warmer layer are also useful for early mornings, evenings, meditation circles, and outdoor gatherings. The key to travelling comfortably in the Azores is to be ready for several seasons in one day!

Essential Packing Checklist

To help you prepare for our journey, we recommend bringing:

  • Comfortable walking or hiking shoes with good grip for trails, volcanic terrain, caves, archaeological sites, and uneven ground

  • A waterproof and windproof jacket

  • Lightweight clothing that can be layered

  • A warm sweater, fleece, or light insulated layer for cooler mornings, evenings, higher elevations, and windy conditions

  • An extra pair of comfortable shoes, particularly in case your main footwear gets wet

  • A small daypack for daily excursions

  • A reusable water bottle

  • Sun protection, including sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat

  • A swimsuit and sandals or flip-flops for thermal pools, hot springs, and bathing areas

  • A light scarf or shawl for meditation circles, outdoor gatherings, and cooler evenings

  • A compact umbrella, optional but useful

  • Any personal medication you may need during the journey

  • A small personal first-aid kit with any preferred essentials

  • A reusable waterproof bag or dry pouch for protecting phones and personal items from rain or moisture

  • Power adapter for Europe in case you need one

  • A notebook and pen for journaling

  • Snorkeling equipment if you feel called to

Please pack with comfort, flexibility, and practicality in mind rather than formal clothing. Our days will involve a mixture of travelling, walking, exploring nature and ancient or mysterious sites, and spending time together in contemplative and ceremonial settings.

Most importantly: bring layers and be prepared for several seasons in one day.
