About this trip

Join me on a retreat to Bali, a small island in Indonesia known for its spiritual culture, temples, and traditional art.  The retreat will be held at The Shala Bali in Ubud where we will be cocooned amongst rice paddies and coconut palms in an oasis of peace, beauty, and wellness.

Each day will begin with an hour-long class devoted to meditation and mindfulness techniques. After breakfast, the daily three-hour Ayurveda and yoga classes are intended to go beyond the general group classes you may experience back home. Throughout the week, we’ll build progressively on Ayurvedic and yogic wisdom as well as anatomical, alignment, and energetic themes.

Each afternoon there will be ample free time so that, if you wish, you can explore Balinese culture. The Shala Bali is a 20-minute walk or short taxi ride to Ubud center city. Here you will find an exciting and thriving village of markets, arts, museums, Indonesian craftsmanship, temples, and much more. There are also several excursions available within a short distance. For instance, a half-day trip can be arranged to the sacred Tirtha Empul and Gunung Kawii—11th century temples that are most exquisite.

You can also spend free time at The Shala Bali. The retreat center has an impressive 20-meter salt water pool with a shady bale pavilion for relaxing and an area for sunbathing. There is also an Ayurvedic spa, set in blissful surroundings with flowing water and lush gardens, where self-care services may be purchased separately.

In short, this is a retreat for spiritual seekers who like the idea of a tranquil oasis and a bustling cultural feast for the senses.

My hope is to inspire people to live healthier, more wholehearted lives, through Ayurveda, yoga, and meditation. I began practicing yoga and meditation in 1996 and have been teaching since 2000. My yoga teaching draws from the Krishnamacharya lineage, having completed teacher trainings in Alignment, Ashtanga, and Therapeutic Yoga. I am registered with Yoga Alliance at the 500-E level. My primary teachers are Scott Anderson and Michael Stone. My classes integrate meditation and a mindful approach to asana that brings attention to anatomy, optimal alignment, breath, and inner awareness. This practice cultivates abounding health in body and mind while inspiring you to live a more grounded and compassionate life. If you prefer an individual or therapeutic approach, my private yoga lessons address the intricacies of adapting the practice to honor individual needs and health concerns. I am the Assistant Director and a lead instructor for Alignment Yoga’s teacher training programs. I offer a variety of trainings, workshops, and retreats, both locally and abroad. Additionally, I am a licensed massage therapist specializing in Neurovascular and Aroma Acupoint Therapy. My studies continue in Ayurveda, India’s science of longevity and health. I am currently enrolled in Kripalu’s School of Ayurveda and also have had the privilege of studying with Dr. Robert Svoboda and Dr. Claudia Welch. I have a deep love for travel, local food, and spending time with my pitbull Lucy. I look forward to working together. Gratefully, Andrea

The retreat weekend was lovely from start to finish. So grateful for the learning, yoga, and opportunities for stillness. Andrea brings the superb mix of quiet gentleness, fun, knowledge and wisdom - I thrive on her presence. Christine Center is an integral ingredient to the beauty and nourishment of this retreat. As always, feeling grateful.

When I decided that I wanted to do a yoga retreat, I considered several options in different countries. What drew me to Andrea's retreat was how it was structured - a mix of meditation, yoga, local excursions and great food seemed like a nice, balanced way to rest and recharge my batteries. Not only was my instinct right, but the retreat went far beyond my expectations! Whether you are a total yoga and meditation newbie like myself, or an experienced practitioner like a number of the other retreat participants, everyone can find so much to enjoy and learn on this retreat. Andrea's positive energy, combined with the stunning setting (and food!) of the Ahki sanctuary and nearby Nosara, made this retreat a unique and memorable experience as well as a perfect way to start the new year.
You couldn't ask for a better combination of remote, stunning Costa Rican surroundings and Andrea's top notch teachings. AHKI Retreat Sanctuary Staff are so kind, and the organic food is delicious. A highlight: the Howler monkeys climbing through the trees to view class and learn a few new yoga poses. :)

This trip was absolutely transformational! The retreat center was beautiful and the food was amazing - I truly enjoyed the focus on vegetarian, fresh food. I was never hungry and it helped me start my year on a good note. Andrea was the best retreat leader, you can tell she pours her heart and soul into teaching us about yoga, meditation and Ayurveda. I would go back in a heartbeat. We got to see monkeys - feet away from me! I felt very calm, safe and supported here.
