The older temple was constructed in the 18th century by Ahilyabai Holkar of the Holkar dynasty. It's a profound site of spiritual significance, attracting millions of pilgrims annually, and embodies the heart of Varanasi's religious life.
(b) Ganga Aarti: The Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat is a spectacular and spiritual ceremony that takes place every evening on the banks of the Ganges. This ritual involves priests using fire as an offering to the Ganges, accompanied by the chanting of hymns and ringing of temple bells, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere. The Arti symbolizes the dedication to Lord Shiva, the Ganges, the Sun, Agni (Fire), and the whole universe, showcasing Varanasi's deep-rooted spiritual traditions.
(c) Dinner at Dina Chaat Bhandar: Known for its delicious street food, Dina Chaat Bhandar offers a taste of Varanasi's rich culinary culture. Family run, this eatery is world famous for its variety of chaats, including the lip-smacking Tamatar Chaat, and is a must-visit for food lovers. Dining here provides not just a meal but an experience of Varanasi's vibrant street food scene, often bustling with locals and tourists alike, making it an essential part of the Varanasi experience.
Note:
Wear Comfortable shoes. Old Varanasi town has restricted access to vehicles and we have to walk around temple premises. Wheelchair for Ghats is available for those who would find it difficult to walk. Ghat steps do not have wheelchair accessibility.
Varanasi is crowded, do not wear expensive accessories in crowded places.
