About this trip

Come and shed old layers and renew/rejuvenate/restore for a week in Puglia.   This weeks program has a strong foundation in asana, meditation, pranayama and bodywork.  Practise yoga twice daily a.m. and p.m. on this special Samacitta retreat with Monica Marini in Puglia at one of the Europe’s best dedicated yoga retreat venues LA ROSA DEI 4 VENTI as featured in the book GREAT YOGA RETREATS published by Taschen Books.  We will be staying at La Rosa dei 4 Venti which is  a charming, family run dedicated yoga retreat venue set in an elegantly restored 16th century masseria (a traditional farmhouse found in the Puglia region). Our idyllic estate features stunning architecture, a beautiful pool, a perfect yoga space and 15 hectares of gardens for walks to be had in the secluded woods and grounds.

Prepare to immerse yourself in simple Italian pleasures, extremely healthy and alkalising food, and a yoga program designed to recalibrate you. The yoga shala is a beautifully converted 18th century barn situated in a peaceful part of the property which used to be a monastery and the spiritual resonance can still be felt.  The hard wood floor and traditional stone, arched, white walls are designed to keep the room cool during the warm months as well offering space for guests to move through sequences uninterrupted. This retreat is open to everyone, suitable for both beginners and more advanced practitioners.

Accomodation

La Rosa dei 4 Venti is not a hotel; it’s a unique, comfortable, family-run specialist destination that specializes in yoga holidays. This 15-hectare property is situated on a small hillock in the heart of the Itria Valley in the heel of Italy’s boot (nearest international airport is Brindisi). Each room is unique, full of character and comes with an en suite with shower, toilet and basin. Rooms are furnished to reflect the building and the area, creating a relaxed, calming and laidback atmosphere.
The masseria comfortably accommodates 10 guests in 5 rooms and close by there are another 5 rooms in the trulli houses which can be single occupancy. These white conical buildings are one of the most magical aspects of the Puglian landscape.
Freedom and simplicity are at the heart of this yoga retreat. The landscape is scenic and rural and is dotted with beautiful olive trees and vineyards, divided by pretty dry-stone walls. Between the lovely gardens, swimming pool, wild forest and fields, and tiny church, there is plenty of space to explore, walk and be free.

10 bedrooms all ensuite

All bedrooms can be either single or double occupancy.

All have private bathrooms and are unique in colour and decor with humble yet elegant simplicity perfect for a yoga retreat.

Food

The diet for those coming on retreat to La Rosa dei 4 Venti is extremely important, as important as the yoga practice. The cuisine follows the PH alkaline diet philosophy whose goal is to make a healthy vegetarian diet, mainly raw, organic, with low gluten, no dairy and wheat-free. We serve fresh, organic and seasonal produce from our home garden; we make our own goat cheese and milk and we make our bread, pastries and pastas with spelt flour or gluten-free flour like buckwheat flour. Our dishes are from the Italian tradition with some raw dishes at lunch and some superfoods in our recipies. The menus have been specially created for yoga practice and meditation and have been tried and tested by other retreat groups for fine-tuning - the chef is local to Puglia and can cater to any special dietary requirements given notice.  There will be breakfast, lunch and dinner served daily.  With fresh fruit, herbal teas, snacks and water offered freely throughout the day and night.

Teachers

Monica Marini has been practicing, studying and developing her understanding & application of meditation, pranayama and asanas for more than 20 years and holds many hours of training in various lineages such as Ashtanga, Vinyasa flow, Yin, Restorative and Hatha & Iyengar.   Monica is also founder of the Whitstable Yoga Festival.  She has developed a unique and creative style of practice known as Yoga Morphic - see www.yogamorphic.com - for a diverse range of students and levels. Monica offers focused, caring guidance towards a safe, yet dynamic practice.

Her focus is the therapeutic application of asana (physical postures) and pranayama (breath regulation) for a more integrated experience of the body-mind. Principles of Vinyasa Krama (effective and safe sequencing)and traditional postures of Hatha Yoga are infused with the clarity and precision of the Iyengar method inform her delicious slow Vinyasa Yoga Flow classes, for an energising practice offering students the opportunity to experience for themselves how Yoga can restore physical and mental wellbeing.  Her classes are designed to establish a strong and safe foundation, powerful core integration and to promote a unique individual expression in each pose.

Katrina (www.samacitta.com) is a 350hr yoga teacher in Sivananda, and traditional Hatha and is also a bodyworker with a gift for getting to true essence and allowing for embodiment on the table. Katrina will be giving the bodywork/massage sessions whilst on retreat in the gorgeous treatment room.

“Bodywork is not a massage; it is therapy for the body and therefore works right into your spirit, soul, your well-being. Katrina makes it feel like a shared experience and an art-form. Both during and afterwards, I felt held, protected and a powerful sense of connection to my feelings. She has great strength yet gentleness in how she works through your body in a responsive way intuiting which part to focus attention on. It was for me a unique experience and I would highly recommend Katrina.”
