      August 7-9, 2023

Start your tour in LENOX a quintessential New England town with an eclectic collection of artistic and upscale shops to browse or shop in.  There are a variety of restaurants with an array of menu choices and price ranges to choose from for lunch on your own.    Enjoy a TOUR and VICTORIAN TEA at VENTFORT HALL “one of the approximately seventy-five so-called “Cottages” built in Lenox in the late 19th century when the village became a popular Gilded Age resort. The guided tour of the first and second floors lasts approximately one hour.   After hotel check in enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.  The following day enjoy a BERKSHIRE COTTAGES TOUR.  On this driving tour you will hear stories about the characters and explore the era of the “Gilded Age”.  You will take a TOUR of the MOUNT and  and enjoy a sandwich lunch.  The MOUNT was the home of Edith Wharton, the first woman to receive the Pulitzer Prize - for her work "The Age of Innocence".  One of the skilled guides will lead you on an hour-long exploration of Edith Wharton’s gracious summer home.  This afternoon tour CHESTERWOOD, the home of Daniel Chester French, sculptor of the seated Lincoln of the Memorial in Washington DC and the Minuteman in Concord, MA.  See several statues of Lincoln and hear how French developed an idea into one of our nation’s most well-known monuments. This evening after included dinner, enjoy the concert “at the Tanglewood Music Shed.Music byBoston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops Orchestra  and Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra.  RAVEL Boléro, Arturs MASKATS Tango , RIMSKY-KORSAKOV Capriccio espagnole , John WILLIAMS Selections from Far and Away, Born on the Fourth of July, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

TCHAIKOVSKY 1812 Overture.  Fireworks to follow the concert!  After breakfast the following day, take TANGLEWOOD TOUR.  Step back in time as you stroll the perfectly manicured grounds at the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.  This tour explains the history of the BSO in the Berkshires and highlights the accomplishments of the Tanglewood Music Center educational program.  You will have the opportunity to enjoy the NORMAN ROCKWELL MUSEUM tour.  See many of the illustrator’s works in the original oil paintings at your own pace.  This museum owns 400 or Rockwell’s original works. Finally, enjoy LUNCH on your own in STOCKBRIDGE.  This is where Norman Rockwell lived and worked.  You will enjoy a variety of small restaurants to choose from in this quaint, “picture postcard” town.  Take time to visit the RED LION INN and see the antique furniture, the famous “teapot collection” (hundreds of teapots from all over the world).

Wonderful day! Had a good time with passengers on board bus, bus driver was courteous, Vicki was good hostess, good lunch at Shady Maple, and the Moses show was wonderful!

We had a great time! The bus was on time and comfortable. Vikki was very accommodating and helpful. We had one issue with our group not being together and she fixed it. The food was wonderful (as always at Shady Maple) and the show was fantastic! Reasonable price.

The museum is filled with wonderful Brosdway memories...pictures, amazing costumes, knowledgeable staff. Be prepared to climb stairs..restrooms are in basement, self-guided tour begins on 3rd floor. Wish we'd had it to ourselves, however, they schedule groups of 15 almost back-to-back, so it got a little congested at times, making picture taking difficult. Overall, a very good trip.

I had a wonderful spring excursion going to the Philadelphia Flower Show. There were many buses there so the show was quite crowded, but we escaped to the Reading Terminal Market which was a great dining experience and a short walk right across the street. The sights, the smells, the beauty of the displays were well worth a visit. I am hoping to go on other trips with Garden State Getaways because the pickup points are so convenient. Thank you, Kathy, for toting that umbrella to guide us to the right bus-we have our own Mary Poppins leading the way for us:)
