About this trip

Over the course of this 2-hour walking trip, we will explore the  wooded trails and shore lines of Yates Mill Pond and Mid Pines Road.

During November through March, the trip focuses on the migratory ducks  such as Hooded Mergansers, Bufflehead, Ruddy Ducks and more however we  will be on the lookout for many species of wintertime birds including,  Kingfishers, Kinglets, Cardinals, Woodpeckers, Herons, Red-shouldered  Hawks, Red-tailed Hawks, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Brown Thrashers and  more. 


In addition to the winter species listed above, springtime &  summer migratory bird sightings are common in late March through May  including various warblers, Flycatchers, Phoebes, American Red Starts,  Towhees, Great Egrets, Green Herons, Purple Martins, Eastern  Meadowlarks, Summer Tanagers, Indigo Buntings and Nuthatches.

We will meet in the parking lot of Yates Mill Park at 8:00 AM sharp and spend 1 hour exploring this area before taking a 5 min car ride to the Mid Pines Rd dog-leg.
