About this trip

In the winter months, this trip is a great opportunity to see and photograph migrating and resident ducks. Over the course of this 2-hour walking trip, we will explore the wooded trails and shore lines of Yates Mill Pond and Mid Pines Rd.

During November through March the trip focuses on the migratory ducks such as Hooded Mergansers, Bufflehead, Ruddy Ducks and more however we will be on the lookout for many species of wintertime birds including, Kingfishers, Kinglets, Cardinals, Woodpeckers, Herons, Red-shouldered Hawks, Red-tailed Hawks, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Brown Thrashers and more.

In addition to the winter species listed above, springtime & summer migratory bird sightings are common in late March through May including various warblers, Flycatchers, Phoebes, American Red Starts, Towhees, Great Egrets, Green Herons, Purple Martins, Eastern Meadowlarks, Summer Tanagers, Indigo Buntings and Nuthatches.
