Our guides were amazing, the abundance of birds was incredible! The lodges were beautiful, clean and comfortable, with spectacular food and wonderful people.
This trip exceeded our expectations. We encountered abd viewed more species than anticipated. Highlights of the trip were the smaller, hard to get to eco lodges featuring the Cock of the Rock and the Antipittas. The condors and the spectacled bear were the icing on the cake. Food was always great. and lodge staffs were pleasant and accommodating.
We recommend further investigation of lodges on the Napo. While the Sacha lodge was comfortable and well appointed, the birding did not meet our expectations. We'd give them a 7 out of 10.
Also recommend including tipping on future trips (except for housekeeping).
Our birding trip to northern Ecuador was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The region’s stunning diversity of habitats—from cloud forests to Andean slopes—offered incredible birdwatching opportunities, with countless species seen daily.
The guides were knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and deeply committed to ensuring every participant had the best possible experience. Their sharp eyes and deep understanding of local birdlife greatly enhanced our sightings and appreciation of the region.
Overall, this trip exceeded expectations in every way—a perfect combination of world-class birding, comfort, and warm Ecuadorian hospitality. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an unforgettable birding adventure.
We had incredible guides (saw over 490 bird species), visited a variety of interesting landscapes, stayed in beautiful and comfortable locally-owned lodges, ate delicious local food, and travelled in a comfortable bus with an excellent driver. The people at the lodges and stops along the way were soo kind and generous.
This Northern Costa Rica Birding Itinerary is amazing - well planned, expertly guided, and meticulously included over 250 species. Most amazing were the Tody Motmot, Green MaCaws, Agami Heron, and wide variety of owls. Our group of 10 experienced wet forests, dry forests, both coasts and many rivers. Costa Rica is a treasure. Food and services offered a healthy variety and the people were delightful. Birding is always active, but never strenuous. This trip fed my soul with a spirit of appreciation and wonder.
