Spend the day at the forge, hammering out and crafting your very own custom knife. You will work step-by-step alongside instructor Jed Anderson, who will demonstrate every technique so you can see exactly how to master the craft. Rather than using pre-cut blanks, you will forge a blade from a raw chunk of steel, navigate the heat-treating process, and fit a custom handle to your blade.
You will complete the entire process under Jed's expert guidance, ensuring you leave with a finished knife and a matching sheath. If you can experience even a fraction of the pride that comes from holding a blade you forged with your own hands, the day is a huge win. Class is held in Jed’s workshop next door to the Nome Schoolhouse, with all meals and accommodations located right on-site.
When I was 11 yrs old, I saw a blacksmith at a county fair and was enthralled by what he was doing. The way he was able to move and shape the metal amazed me.
In the spring of '16, I built my first forge, and six months later, I made my first knife. When I finished that knife, I felt a full-body high. It was an incredible feeling, and something I hadn't felt in years. It was then that I knew what I wanted to do.
I went full-time with bladesmithing in 2019, and have been working at perfecting the craft ever since.
