Edinburgh

Today you start with a visit to The Palace of Holyroodhouse, the King’s official Scottish residence. This stunning palace once hosted Bonnie Prince Charlie, during the 1745 Jacobite Rising. Its grand rooms and abbey ruins set the scene for romance, rebellion, and royal drama.

You will then enjoy a walking tour exploring Edinburgh’s historic Royal Mile. Visit St Giles’ Cathedral and uncover stories of royalty, rebellion, and everyday life in the Old Town. Step into Bakehouse Close, the Outlander filming location of Jamie’s printshop, and experience the atmosphere of 18th-century Edinburgh brought to life.

You will then visit Edinburgh Castle which stands proudly atop an ancient volcanic rock, dominating the city skyline and guarding Scotland’s capital for nearly a thousand years. Within its walls, you’ll discover the Crown Jewels of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny, and the Great Hall, along with sweeping views across the city and stories of kings, queens, battles, and sieges that shaped the nation.

Day 3

Day 3 image

Edinburgh to Pitlochry

Today you begin with a visit to Midhope Castle, the beloved Fraser family home, known on screen as Lallybroch. This atmospheric 16th-century tower house is one of the most iconic filming locations from Outlander. Standing at its entrance evokes the deep emotional connection fans feel to Jamie, Claire, and their family legacy — a perfect place to step into the world of both past and future Fraser generations.

You will then continue to the formidable Blackness Castle, a 15th-century fortress dramatically overlooking the Firth of Forth. Used as the terrifying Fort William in Outlander, where Black Jack Randall exerted his control, it returned to the screen during the 2023 filming of Blood of My Blood. Exploring its dark stone walls and waterside battlements offers a striking contrast of history and cinematic storytelling.

Your journey continues to the beautifully preserved 17th-century village of Culross, transformed into the fictional town of Cranesmuir. Bursting with period charm, Culross was a key filming location across multiple seasons of Outlander — the worlds of Claire, Geillis, and the next chapter of the Fraser story all come to life around you.

Next, you travel to Falkland, the village that famously stands in for 1940s and 1960s Inverness. Here you can visit Mrs Baird’s B&B, the Bruce Fountain — where Frank glimpses Jamie’s ghost — and Farrell’s Hardware Shop. Falkland was once again transformed during the 2023 filming of Blood of My Blood, making it a must-see for those wishing to compare scenes from both eras of the Fraser saga.

You will then visit the hidden gem of Balvaird Castle, a striking 15th-century tower house set amidst open countryside. Featured in Blood of My Blood, this remote and dramatic filming location offers a powerful sense of stepping into the early chapters of the Fraser family history. Its solitude and sweeping landscapes create the perfect setting for evocative storytelling and breathtaking photography.

Day 4

Day 4 image

Pitlochry to Inverness

Today, your  first visit is the Highland Folk Museum, an immersive open-air museum that brings Highland life of the 1700s vividly to life. With traditional blackhouses,  fans will instantly recognise the 18th-century township used for the rent-collecting scenes in Outlander Season 1 with Claire, Jamie, Dougal and the Mackenzie clan — a perfect introduction to daily Highland life as seen in the early chapters of the Fraser story.

You then travel through the wild beauty of the Cairngorms National Park, where sweeping glens, forests, and mountain views create superb scenic stops. This dramatic landscape, so characteristic of the Highlands, helps bring to life the world of clans, kinship, and the heritage explored throughout Outlander and now further expanded in Blood of My Blood.

Your journey continues to the deeply moving Culloden Battlefield, where the 1745 Jacobite Rising met its tragic end on 16 April 1746. Walking the windswept moor and visiting the interactive visitor centre offers a powerful understanding of the real history behind the events portrayed in Outlander. Here, the sacrifices of Highland clans — including the Frasers — are remembered, making this one of the most emotional stops of the tour.

A short distance away lies the ancient and atmospheric Clava Cairns, a 4,000-year-old Bronze Age site of standing stones and burial cairns. Though not used for filming, it is widely regarded as the inspiration for Craigh na Dun. It offers a moment to reflect, connect with Scotland’s ancient past, and feel the sense of time and destiny that flows through the Fraser story.

From here, you visit the Wardlaw Mausoleum, a little-known but hugely significant site for those interested in Fraser history. This 17th-century mausoleum is the traditional burial place of Clan Fraser of Lovat. Stepping inside its quiet chamber provides a powerful and intimate connection to the real Fraser lineage. It also links to the story of Simon Fraser, the “Old Fox”, whose legacy features strongly in the Jacobite era that Blood of My Blood will further explore. This stop adds a deeper, more personal resonance to the Fraser family journey.

You finish the day in Inverness, the capital of the Highlands and the place where Claire and Frank’s 1940s story begins. With riverside walks, cosy pubs, and Highland charm, it offers a welcoming and atmospheric setting to relax and reflect on a day immersed in both the history and heart of the Fraser legacy.

Day 5

Day 5 image

Inverness to Skye

Your morning begins with a scenic drive along the shores of Loch Ness, Scotland’s most legendary loch. As the mist drifts across the water, you’ll hear tales of folklore, mysterious sightings, and the enduring myth that has fascinated the world for generations — the perfect introduction to a day steeped in story, legend, and Highland wonder.

You continue to the atmospheric ruins of Urquhart Castle, dramatically overlooking Loch Ness. Once the site of clan conflict, sieges, and power struggles, its broken walls and panoramic views create a striking setting for storytelling. Though not featured in Outlander, the castle’s long history of clan battles reflects the turbulent world that shaped the Fraser ancestry.

Your journey then takes you through dramatic Highland scenery to Glen Shiel, where the landscape tells the story of the 1719 Jacobite Rising — a key event that deepens the historical backdrop for both Outlander and the era explored in Blood of My Blood. This glen evokes a sense of the hardship, loyalty, and courage that defined the Jacobite cause.

Next, you arrive at the iconic Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland’s most photographed landmarks. Standing proudly at the meeting of three lochs, it offers a captivating blend of romance, Highland spirit, and Jacobite history. While not used in Outlander, its atmosphere and storytelling connection make it a favourite for fans wishing to immerse themselves in the world that shaped the Fraser legacy.

Crossing the bridge to the Isle of Skye, the landscape grows more rugged and mystical, with towering peaks, waterfalls, and sea cliffs unfolding around every turn.

A highlight of your arrival is the historic Sligachan Old Bridge, set against the dramatic Cuillin mountains. Here you’ll hear the enchanting legend of the waters of Sligachan — said to grant eternal beauty to those who dip their face in the river for seven seconds. The story of the warrior princess Scáthach and the Celtic myths tied to this place offer a magical moment that beautifully blends history, folklore, and imagination — very much in the spirit of the storytelling that captivates Outlander fans.

You end your day in Portree, Skye’s colourful harbour town. With its pastel waterfront, charming pubs, seafood restaurants, and island hospitality, it is the perfect place to relax and reflect on a day filled with Highland history, legend, and cinematic scenery.

Skye

Today is dedicated to exploring the dramatic and iconic landscapes of the Isle of Skye — a day of sweeping vistas, ancient legends, and unforgettable scenery that feels as though it were lifted from the pages of a Highland epic.

Your morning begins with a journey to the Old Man of Storr, one of Scotland’s most recognisable natural landmarks. Rising like a jagged sentinel against the skyline, the Storr is steeped in myth and offers breathtaking views across the Sound of Raasay.

Your scenic route brings you to Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls, where basalt columns resembling a pleated kilt tower over the sea as the waterfall plunges down into the crashing waves below. The viewpoint offers magnificent ocean vistas and another moment to soak in Skye’s wild coastal beauty.

You then continue north to the Quiraing, a dramatic landslip of pinnacles, plateaus, and rugged cliffs that creates one of the most spectacular panoramas in Scotland. This otherworldly landscape has a mystical, almost cinematic quality.

Next, you visit the enchanting Fairy Glen, a landscape that looks like it has been lifted from a Celtic fairytale. With miniature cone-shaped hills, moss-covered mounds, and a mystical stillness, it’s easy to imagine the “wee folk” of Scottish folklore living here.

In the afternoon, you will visit Dunvegan Castle, the ancestral seat of Clan MacLeod for over 800 years and one of the oldest continuously inhabited castles in Scotland. With its rich clan history, treasures such as the Fairy Flag, and enchanting gardens overlooking Loch Dunvegan, this visit blends historical heritage with Highland legend. It provides a wonderful complement to your scenic day — connecting landscape, clan legacy, and storytelling in a way that resonates with Outlander and Blood of My Blood fans alike.

You return to Portree for the evening, where you can relax with fresh local seafood, enjoy island hospitality,

Day 7

Day 7 image

Skye to Fort William

Your morning begins the ferry from Armadale to Mallaig, a scenic sea crossing that offers stunning views back towards Skye’s jagged Cuillin mountains. As the ferry glides across the water, take a moment to enjoy the sea air and reflect on your time on the Misty Isle — a landscape that often feels suspended between myth and reality.

Your route then passes through some of Scotland’s most iconic scenery, including the famous viewpoint of Glenfinnan. Here, you’ll visit the Glenfinnan Monument, honouring the Highlanders who fought for Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite cause in 1745. This is a key moment in Scottish history — the raising of the Jacobite standard — and a true turning point in the story that shapes the world of the Frasers in Outlander. Nearby, you can view the Glenfinnan Viaduct, now known worldwide from Harry Potter, adding a touch of modern cinematic magic to the day.

Continue through dramatic landscapes as you follow the “Road to the Isles,” a route filled with tales of clans, rebellion, and Highland identity. The scenery here is nothing short of spectacular, with shimmering lochs, mountain peaks, and ancient woodlands lining the way.

You finish the day in Fort William, often called the “Outdoor Capital of the UK,” nestled at the foot of Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain. With mountain vistas, welcoming inns, and Highland hospitality, it is the perfect place to unwind after a day steeped in sea crossings, Jacobite history, and unforgettable landscapes.

Overnight Fort William

Day 8

Day 8 image

Fort William to Edinburgh

Your morning begins with a dramatic drive into Glencoe, Scotland’s most hauntingly beautiful glen. Its towering mountains and deep valleys witnessed the infamous 1692 Massacre of Glencoe, a tragic story of betrayal that echoes the themes of loyalty, clan honour, and heartbreak seen throughout Outlander. The glen’s moody atmosphere, breathtaking viewpoints, and cinematic scale make it one of the most powerful stops of your journey — a place where history and emotion linger in the air.

You then continue into the serenity of Glen Lyon, often described as Scotland’s “longest, loveliest glen”. Here, you will visit the charming Glen Lyon Bridge, a picturesque and atmospheric filming location featured in Blood of My Blood. This stop allows you to step directly into the world of the new series, capturing memorable photographs and enjoying the tranquil beauty that made this setting perfect for the show.

Your next stop will be Doune Castle, which you will recognize as Castle Leoch in Outlander.

Your journey continues south toward Stirling Castle, one of Scotland’s most magnificent fortresses — a place where kings and queens lived, battles were fought, and Scotland’s destiny was shaped. Explore its grand halls, royal apartments, and sweeping views

From here, enjoy a scenic drive returning to Edinburgh, completing your journey through centuries of Scottish history, clan tales, sweeping landscapes, and the real-life settings that inspired both Outlander and Blood of My Blood.

As you return to the capital, you’ll carry with you not just memories of breath-taking landscapes and filming locations, but a deeper connection to Scotland’s heart, heritage, and story.
