12 Michelin star equivalent restaurants in 7 days. Every meal was an adventure. The trip delivered on what it promised as far as being a wild ride for food and wine, and it did not disappoint. Some of the best meals of my life and an overwhelming desire to go back just to eat some of those meals again. As far as the trip as a vacation, I would have gone with 4 1/2 stars vs 5 if I had the option, but dropping to 4 would have been a stretch as the trip overall was fantastic! In the end, the accommodations were lovely but not the homey experience originally signed up for. Traveling with strangers/acquaintances means there’s always the potential for a conflict of interest and each of us had our shining moments and each of us had our ugly moments - some of which were generated by lack of communication, some of which were generated by changing agendas or fitting things in to try to accommodate everyone’s wants. In between the 8 hours of eating we did each day between breakfast, lunch and dinner (yes - at least 8 hours a day were spent eating), and the insane amount of time it took to get anywhere in Bogota traffic, we also fit in museums and a salt cave and shopping and more eating. It was a packed agenda with little room for leeway made even tighter by the traffic. So any delay caused a ripple in a group. And everyone at one point or another caused one of those ripples - whether it was taking longer at the checkout counter to buy that perfect zip up, or taking more time than we had planned to find that perfect notebook, or missing the group text that changed the meeting time to earlier, or trying to fit in a burger before lunch - some portion of the group was always waiting. (And yes - the burger was worth it! Lol) These things are bound to happen in a group and my advice for future trips is - plan a little less and build in more “free” time. Filling the time will never be an issue, but killing yourself on a vacation to stay on time while still trying to fit so much in - especially when the meals are all already reservation based - will (and did) take a toll on the group. But honestly, these little blips did not - for one second - take away from the overall trip. It was spectacular! I want to do it again and again. I created new friendships. I grew the friendships I had. And, I had a blast. Thank you to Sam for putting this trip together. It was stellar. Thank you to Zack for being our interpreter. I hope to do it again soon!!
