About this trip

Join us on the off-the-beatern Barefoot Trek in Lencois Maranhenses National Park, a phenomenal natural wonder and a truly hidden gem of the North-East Brazil! 🇧🇷

White sand dunes and emerald-blue freshwater lagoons stretching beyond horizon! This magic happens only a few month in the year after the rain season.

Visit the state of Maranhao, a place to experience the vibrant Afro-Brazilian cultural heritage in combination with majestic mind-blowing landscapes! 🤩

If you are an experienced traveler, and been to many unique places before, but you are looking for some kind of new awe-inspiring adventure and some kind of disconnect, this trip is just for you! 🌟

What to expect:

We are going to cross the Lencois Maranhenses National Park on a barefoot trek, watching sunrises and sunsets in the desert, staying overnight in tiny villages in the desert, having meals prepared by locals, sleeping 2 nights in hammocks, getting lost in the starry sky and, of course, rushing down the dunes until you hit the crystal-clear lagoons (sure you can swim there) 💦🦶🏼

First-time in Brazil ?

Extend your trip for a few more days:

- Visit the Natural Wonder of Iguasu Falls,, one of the world's biggest and the largest waterfall in South America!

- Complete your Brazilian vacations in Rio de Janeiro, with its "bossa nova" rhythms, a glass of caipirinha and well-deserved beach-time at Copacabana/Ipanema  🌴🍹

Itinerary

Day 1 (Fri)
Sao Luis, the "reggae capital of Brazil"

Arrive in Sao Luis on direct flight from Sao Paulo (we plan arrival in Sao Paulo a day before and stay overnight in hotel).

Laid back, half-decayed and half-restored, Sao Luis is still very atmospheric.

We will explore the colonial Old Town and its attractions, markets, and squares on a guided walk.  The Old Town is known for its picturesque colonial buildings with colorful tiles and cast-iron balconies.

Sao Luis is ethnically is very diverse, a place that moves to the beat of reggae music, which pervades so much of it that it's been nicknamed the “Brazilian Jamaica.”

Dinner in one of the typical restaurants in town and tasting the local cuisine this region is famous for.

Morocco trip was one of the best trips I've ever had! I got everything I dreamed of and even more. The trip was organized in a way that we didn't have to worry about anything. We stayed in great hotels, tried authentic delicious food in fancy restaurants, the local guide showed us the most beautiful places. Thank you, Karina, for helping us to see and feel this beautiful country!

Greatly organized trip - best hotels and best wonders of Morocco. Tour guide and driver were excellent, Karina was more than helpful through the whole trip. Unforgettable night at the remote camp in Sahara desert - music, drums, food, dance, not a soul around except for our group, camels and gorgeous sunrise! I highly advise Karina's trips, you can be sure you will get the best everything.

I traveled with Karina to Patagonia in 2020 and it was awesome! Perfect planning & organization throughout the trip, including dealing with the unexpected (e.g. lost luggage). I really liked other folks in the group and made several new friends in this trip. I highly recommend Karina's trips to casual and semi-serious hikers, and plan to be a return customer myself.
