We are going to cross the Lencois Maranhenses National Park on a barefoot trek, watching sunrises and sunsets in the desert, staying overnight in tiny villages in the desert, having meals prepared by locals, sleeping 2 nights in hammocks, getting lost in the starry sky and, of course, rushing down the dunes until you hit the crystal-clear lagoons (sure you can swim there) 💦🦶🏼

🦜 Total main trip: 7 days/ 6 nights (Incl. trek: 3 days/ 2 nights). Extensions are not included
🦜 Accommodation type: :2 nights hammocks or foldable beds in the desert
🦜 Level of difficulty: Intermediate. This trek requires medium physical strength. It’s not advised for those with heart problem, hypertensives, or allergic to occasional insect’s bites
🦜 Daily walking mileage: 5-10 miles. Be ready for early wake-ups: We are going to hike in the morning hours when the weather is breezy and the sand is not too hot. We recommended wearing socks for hiking, hiking shoes or tennis shoes are not allowed
🦜 Meals (breakfast, lunch & dinner) and drinking water will be provided on a trek
🦜 Duffel bags for the trekking days (capacity 30L) will be provided of every traveler, the rest of the luggage will be stored in the company office in Sao Luis and picked up after the hike
🦜 You carry only your day-pack with essentials, & water, duffel bags will be carried by mules
🦜 Public restrooms and showers are available at the campgrounds during the hike
🦜 Freshwater lagoons are good and warm for swimming

The average temperature in Lencois Maranhenses National Park in July for a typical day ranges from a high of 88°F (31°C) to a low of 76°F (25°C). Some would describe it as pleasantly warm with a gentle breeze. We are going to hike in the early morning hours when the weather is breezy and the sand is not too hot and comfortable for walking.
United States citizens don't need visa to enter Brazil

Arrive in Sao Luis on direct flight from Sao Paulo (we plan arrival in Sao Paulo a day before and stay overnight in hotel).
Laid back, half-decayed and half-restored, Sao Luis is still very atmospheric.
We will explore the colonial Old Town and its attractions, markets, and squares on a guided walk. The Old Town is known for its picturesque colonial buildings with colorful tiles and cast-iron balconies.
Sao Luis is ethnically is very diverse, a place that moves to the beat of reggae music, which pervades so much of it that it's been nicknamed the “Brazilian Jamaica.”
Dinner in one of the typical restaurants in town and tasting the local cuisine this region is famous for.
Overnight in the comfortable hotel
