Traveling to Tibet is a unique and awe-inspiring experience, offering adventure motorcyclists a chance to explore a region rich in natural beauty, spiritual history, and distinctive culture on two wheels. Located on the high plateau of Central Asia, Tibet is often called "The Roof of the World" due to its extreme elevation and rugged terrain, with much of the region above 12,000 feet (3,600 meters) in altitude.
Our experience takes in breathtaking landscapes, from the towering peaks of the Himalayas, including Mount Everest, to serene high-altitude lakes like Yamdrok and Namtso. The vast
Tibetan Plateau is dotted with rolling grasslands, deserts, and ancient monasteries.
Tibet is the spiritual home of Tibetan Buddhism, and we will explore its many monasteries, temples, and pilgrimage sites, including the Jokhang Temple and the Potala Palace, once the residence of the Dalai Lama.
Tibet is one of those places that simply must be visited. And there is undoubtedly no better way
to explore this mythical place than on one of our Royal Enfield Himalayan 450s!

Leaving the cacophony of Kathmandu behind, we climb via endless switchbacks to the beautiful Newari town of Nuwakot and spend the night in the charismatic The Famous Farm. Here we will celebrate the first day on two wheels and ready ourselves for the ride to Chinese border.
A tough day on rocky mountain roads and a typically long process of crossing the border brings us to our first destination in Tibet. Gyirong is a modern town with a magnificent square that welcomes you to Tibet. The town is located at an
altitude of around 2,700 meters (8,858 feet) and the 7k meter Ganesh Himchal range is so close you can touch it! A quick wander around this mountain town let's us adjust to the elevation and some spicy Sichuan food.
Today is all about gaining elevation as we make our way to Tingri, a small town situated at an elevation of around 4,300 meters (14,100 feet), a gain of 1,600 meters in one day. Tingri is known for its proximity to Mount Everest, which lies about 40 kilometers (25 miles) to the south. Along the way, we'll take in Lake Pelku, a high-altitude lake located in the Nagqu area of northern Tibet. Lake Pelku is one of the many glacial lakes that dot the Tibetan Plateau, a region famous for its vast,
rugged landscapes and spiritual significance.
Today's ride deposits us at the famous monastery city of Shigatse. Shigatse has a long history and is often considered the spiritual and administrative capital of Tibet's Tsang region. The city grew around the beautiful Tashilhunpo Monastery,
which was founded in the 15th century by the first Dalai Lama. Over time, it became the seat of the Panchen Lama, one of the most important religious figures in Tibetan Buddhism after the Dalai Lama.
A highpoint of our Tibetan experience, today we arrive in the stunningly beautiful city of Lhasa.Lhasa is the capital and spiritual centre of Tibet,an autonomous region of China. Located at an altitude of about 3,650 meters (12,000 feet) in the
Tibetan Plateau, Lhasa is often referred to as the "City of the Sun" due to its clear skies and abundant sunlight. It holds profound cultural, religious, and
historical significance for Tibetans.
Time for a well-deserved break from the bikes and explore one of the most magical cities on Earth.A cultural tour will include the magnificent Potala Palace, once the seat of the Tibetan government and the winter residence of the Dalai Lamas, the
1300-year-old Jokhang Temple and the Main Assembly Hall. And when it comes time to chill,we will enjoy the luxury of staying in one of the best hotels in Tibet.
We reach over 4,000 meters // 13,000 feet today as we wind up through the mountains for a stop at the beautiful Karola Glacier, the source of which is Mt. Noijin Kangsang (7,191m), which is one of the four holy mountains of Tibet.
The end of our ride today takes us to Gyantse and its most famous landmarks, the Gyantse Kumbum, a large, multi-tiered stupa located in the Pelkor Chode Monastery. The Kumbum is one of the most iconic examples of Tibetan architecture, renowned for its intricate murals and thousands of statues of deities.
Shegar, also known as New Tingri, is a small town located 4,300 meters // 14,000It serves as the administrative center of the Tingri County, situated in the southwestern part of Tibet, near the border with Nepal.
Shegar is an important town for travelers heading to Mount Everest and other nearby high-altitude destinations, as it is one of the closest inhabited areas to the Everest Base Camp on the Tibetan side.
Today we will experience what few ever see: An excursion up to Everest Base Camp (EBC). The Everest Base Camp trek is one of the most iconic hikes in the world, drawing adventurers from across the globe to experience the thrill of walking in the shadow of Everest. Since we are on bikes and coming from the Tibet side, after parking the bikes we will take the 30 min ride in an ecobus to the camp to take in the beauty of Everest and the surrounding glaciated peaks.
Tonight is our last night in Tibet. After the night in Old Tingri and, if the weather plays
along, one of the most spectacular views of Tibet imaginable, we make our way downward in elevation for a final night at our hotel in Gyirong.
The final day on the road is a long one! After crossing the Tibetan border, we tackle the immigration procedures on the Nepal side. Then we have the long, rocky ride back to Kathmandu. We roll into the car park of our home base, the Baber Mahal Vilas, with triumphant fists in the air! The final meal will be a celebration of
