About this trip
Join Bike Hike & Paddle Ltd—an AALA (Adventure Activities Licence Authority) & D of E Approved Activity Provider (AAP)—for a Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award Open Walking Training, Practice & Qualifying Expedition in the fabulous Lake District.
Conquer the Lakeland Fells - this experience challenges, educates and inspires young adventurers while fulfilling DofE Bronze Expedition requirements in full over a four day block. The middle night is optional - if a break at home is wanted, we will finish by 17:00 on 21st & they would need to return on the 22nd for 09:00
What to Expect
April 20th – Orientation & Prep: Team building, gear checks, safety briefings and your team will lead the final route planning with guidance from our qualified leaders.
April 21st - Navigation Training & Practice Walk: You will spend the day under close guidance from your leader. They will balance navigation training, with time to put the skills into practice.
April 22nd & 23rd – The Qualifying Journey: Self sufficient navigation across countryside terrain using maps and compasses, establishing a camp at the mid point.
Assessment & Debrief: Daily reflections on the journey, personal feedback and official DofE assessor sign off - uploaded to your eDofE account.
Preparation & Fitness
To get the most out of your expedition, you should have a good baseline fitness level and be comfortable carrying a fully loaded 65L rucksack for 4 - 6 hours a day. We recommend completing practice walks with a weighted backpack ahead of the trip.
