A very demanding walk with wonderful scenery. The mistake regarding not securing bookings in several of the refugios, meaning that we had to camp on those nights, despite having paid our deposit a year in advance was very disappointing but the emergency support when things went wrong on the walk (eg injury to Cathy Mullane) was excellent.

Well designed and implemented. Follow up during the tip was effective (minor mishaps managed effectively). Very good choice of activities and hotels. Lucia was, once again, very effective and efficient

I cannot praise Cynthia and Say Hueque highly enough. Every airport/hotel pick up was on time or early, the flights they scheduled were convenient and the companies they contracted with were excellent with skilled guides. I especially enjoyed Gaston at Iguazu and Aagostina, our first contact in Argentina. If we ever decide to return, my first and only call will be to Say Hueque.

We were impressed with the support and responses to our questions in the planning stages of the trip. We were extremely disappointed to be told, just days before our departure, that several nights were to be spent camping, not in Refugios as had previously been confirmed. We are not certain who was responsible for this error, but it was most unsatisfactory. We had booked this trip and paid our deposit early last year in order to secure places in the Refugios. It caused a bit of a scramble at the last minute to ensure that we had the right equipment with us for the extra nights' camping. It so happened that those nights were the worst nights to be camping on the Circuit. After the exhausting day going over the John Gardiner pass we were forced to spend a rainy night in the Gray Camping zone which has uneven ground and a difficult layout for locating tents at night. We were there for 2 nights of course, as Day 5 was our rest day. We were all exhausted and did not find the tents very comfortable or restful. We appreciated the night's accommodation at Las Torres Hotel at the end of the trail, as compensation, and the prompt refund of the cost difference. We also appreciated the care that was taken when I developed a painful knee early in the trip, and I was concerned that I may not be able to proceed. As it turned out, I was able to keep walking, but it was reassuring to know that I could be accommodated if I had to turn back. We also appreciated the care that was taken of our friend who fell and fractured her rib. Your people were very supportive of her and it made a great difference to her ability to continue to enjoy the trip. With regard to information about the trek, the pre-trip information package is too marketing-oriented and lacked useful detail about the conditions of the trail and what we might expect. It is important to be psychologically prepared for a hazardous track, potentially extreme conditions including dangerous wind gusts and difficult and dangerous water crossings. It was recommended by the rangers at Los Perros that we begin the trek the following morning at 5:00am because of the expected winds, when it was still dark, and before breakfast was available. We took this advice but this day was difficult enough without having to set out with no breakfast. I think this should be better organised, as I am sure these adverse weather conditions are frequent. Much more should be included in the pre-trip documentation about the conditions from Los Perros to Refugio Gray, in particular beyond the Pass. The descent through the forest to the Ranger Station at Camp Paso and beyond Camp Paso were more challenging and hazardous than described in the information. After Camp Paso the trail follows a narrow track above the Glacier, where very fierce winds caused us to stop frequently and hold on to the rock face. Some anchor points with ropes should be in place here for the safety of walkers, who are quite exhausted by this stage. We were impressed by the rangers at Camp Paso who were very hospitable, kind and welcoming when we stopped there for a rest. They provided excellent first aid to an injured walker who arrived while we were there. Information about distances between Refugios is inconsistent between the pre-tip information, maps at Refugios and signage on the trail. For example, the distance between Los Perros and Refugio Gray is advised in the pre-trip information as 22 km but the distance according to the Los Perros ranger is 18km. However it seemed much longer than that, especially as we had no information about the distance from Camp Paso to Refugio Gray. Generally the meals were good although the lunches were often unappetising. We appreciate that it can be difficult getting supplies to the remote Refugios/campsites. The quality of the food improved once we were on the "W", which is not surprising. Once we arrived at El Chalten, it would have been useful to have some more detailed information about the day-walks. The maps that were provided were inadequate for making sensible choices about what walks to do. We did do some great walks, however rather late in our stay we realised we should have used the hotel and/or commercial excursion businesses to get more information and to book transport to further destinations. The official information centre was not very useful and gives out inadequate maps. As an experience, the "O" circuit is unique, for its challenges and breathtaking beauty. We would recommend it to keen, very fit and experienced walkers and adventurers but I would also warn them about our negative experiences. Many of the above difficulties are beyond your control, and are the responsibility of the National Park. However the quality of the information and the detail, and care with booking procedures, is your responsibility and we strongly recommend you make improvements here. Great experience! Well-organized, comfortable, super-knowledgeable and agreeable guide (Martin) who enhanced the whole excursion (both day).
