A Day of history awaits as we explore the history behind the Kehlsteinhaus, known to English speakers as the “Eagles Nest.” The bus ride to the top is the highlight of the tour – how this road was cut into the side of the Obersalzburg Mountain is amazing. After the visit to the top, we stop at the Grassl Schnapps factory for a quick visit, then we board an electric boat for a 40 min (each way) ride on the Königsee. Dinner is at the Jener Kaser.  

 Enjoy the city of Salzburg! Strolling through Salzburg’s old town. There’s plenty of history as you stroll through the city still haunted by Mozart’s spirit – and Sound of Music tourists! There’s lots of free time to shop and see the city on your own or you can join Scott on his favorite tour: Bosna Grill, Sporer Schnapps, Fürst’s Mozart Balls,and then climb the hill up to the Stiegl Keller. In the late afternoon, we meet back together and then visit Salzburg’s best beerhall, Augustiner zur Mülln, for a buffet dinner and a nice lengthy session. Getting back to the hotel is an easy walk! 

Board the bus for a 2-hour   drive through the Austrian lake country. Here we visit the salt mine featured   in the Monument’s Men, where the Nazi’s hide their stolen art treasures (about   2 hours, and 3 km of walking required). 

From the salt mine, it will   take us about one hour to get to Hallstatt. So picturesque that the Chinese   make a copy of the entire village! We’ll get some lunch and have some free   time to enjoy the village. 

In the evening, we have about 2 hours until we get back to our hotel. 

 We’ll be up early for the 6-7 hour ride to Prague on our private bus. Since our hotel is located in the pedestrian area, we will have to leave our bus and make a little hike to check in at Hotel Čertovka, right next to the Charles Bridge.  In the evening we enjoy the dark beer at the world-famous U Fleku from 1410. For dinner it’s the famous Czech Goulash with bohemian dumplings, of course! 

We’ll get a two-hour introduction to the Czech Capital as we walk through the old town. Then, we take the tram up the hill to the Strahov Monastery for lunch at Pivovar St. Norbert. After lunch, walk across the square to one of the Czech Republic’s most beautiful monastic libraries. We then walk down to the imposing Prague Castle. From here, you can opt to visit the castle and cathedral on your own, or head back into the old town for an evening of free time. 

With our private bus, we head   back towards Bavaria, but with a stop about 100 km later in the city of   Plzeň. We tour the storied brewery of Pilsner Urquell – the original pilsner   beer. After the tour and the tasting, we have another 170 km until arriving in   Regensburg. 

After checking in at Hotel Rosi in   Regensburg’s old town, we walk through the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage   city. Never destroyed in WWII, Regensburg is filled with small winding alleys   and unique architecture. At Kneitinger am Arnulfsplatz ready yourself for a feast   of local Regensburger sausages and the locally made beer. 

In the morning, we tour Regensburg. Not having been damaged in WWII, this well-preserved medieval city is now a UNESCO world heritage site. We make our way just across the Danube for a late lunch at the Spital brewery before heading to the Regensburg Dult. This festival features several beer tents, lots of amusement rides, and snack booths, but it also hosts a marketplace. This tradition harkens back to the Middle Ages, but nowadays you can buy clothes, kitchen wares, and all kinds of miscellaneous items. Then we can watch the antics in the beer tent – a mini-Oktoberfest, but with few non-natives! 

Departure Day. It’s possible to catch the train to   Freising and then take a bus straight to Munich airport. Travel time is 90 minutes   and trains currently go every hour starting around 5:45 AM.  

Others of us will board the train to Düsseldorf!
