About this trip

Journey to what is considered one of the most beautiful and sacred lakes in the world, Lake Atitlán, Guatemala, for a week of rest, renewal, and self-discovery. This trip will include a five-day Cacaoga® (Cacao + Yoga) retreat in the quiet and tranquil community of San Lucas Tolimán and one day in the historic city of Antigua.

Cacaoga® combines Hatha Yoga, heart-centered meditation, and sacred Mayan cacao, which facilitates the opening of our hearts and discovery of our truest, most love-filled selves. In addition to daily Cacaoga® and meditation, activities will include swimming, kayaking, hiking, visiting different locations around the lake (including weaving/textile cooperatives), and learning more about cacao with local medicine men and woman.

The site of our Lake Atitlán retreat, Hotel Tolimán, is a lovely little refuge, tucked away from the larger tourist locales and constructed on the grounds of a former coffee farm and factory. Amenities include spacious rooms, an organic garden, fresh and healthy meals, and plenty of space to reflect, explore, and quiet the mind.

The cost of this retreat includes your room (double occupancy) at Hotel Tolimán and in Antigua; transportation to Lake Atitlán from the airport (arrival) and to Antigua and the airport (departure); three organic, vegetarian meals per day (at Hotel Tolimán); all Cacaoga®, yoga, and meditation classes (plus cacao); and kayaking. Airfare and activities such as hiking, traveling around the lake, dining out, and shopping are not included. A cacao/chocolate workshop in Antigua will be scheduled, if enough retreaters are interested. Plenty of free time at the lake and in Antigua will be available. Please note: This retreat will cap at 13 people. Reserve your spot early to ensure your place on our cacao pilgrimage.

This retreat will be hosted by Liz Getman, Mind & Body Guide and RYT-200. Liz received her yoga certification from Mahadevi Ashram & Kaivalya Yoga School in Tzununá, Guatemala, where she developed Cacaoga® based upon her training in Hatha and Hridaya Yoga and love of chocolate.

In addition to teaching yoga, Liz is a certified Zumba® instructor and has been leading community-based Zumba® classes in Gainesville, FL, her current home, since 2013. She also serve as a board member and volunteer for the charitable organization, YogaLoka, which brings yoga and meditation to vulnerable populations and those diagnosed with mental dis-ease.

Liz enjoys spending her time in service to her community. Her goal is to share her love of mindfulness, meditation, and movement with all people, particularly those with limited access to such practices.
