Caiman Eco-Lodge is at one of the best spots in the reserve, really close to  the Laguna Grande and reachable by canoe all year long, not depending  on the season. The Lodge accommodates up to 40 people in three  individual guest huts; each hut has 2 – 4 double or triple bedrooms (as  required)  each with its own private bathroom and shower. There is also a  relaxing area, hammocks and an amazing tower (3 floors are fit with  triple rooms as those mentioned above) with a great view over the lagoon  and the jungle from the 7th top floor. All our guests are assisted by  an accredited naturalist guide and licensed canoe driver.

This was a great trip!  Our guide Diego was friendly, very accommodating and very knowledgeable about Ecuadorian culture.  I would recommend this travel guide to anyone wanting to visit Mitad del Mundo!

My husband and I stayed two nights at Bellavista in February 2024 and enjoyed our time there immensely.  The staff could not have been more welcoming and knowledgeable.  Our room was in the newer section, with windows on two sides, a large balcony and stunning views over the cloud forest.  And the meals (included in the price) were very good.  But the undoubted star of our stay was the cloud forest and the many creatures who live there.

If you're a birder (we are not) you will feel you've died and gone to heaven.  Even for non-birders, the number, diversity and beauty of the birds we saw were overwhelming.  And frankly, the best viewing was from the lodge itself.  Should you be mobility challenged, you don't even need to leave the lodge grounds to experience a multitude of birds from mere metres away.  And if you love hummingbirds - and who doesn't?? - you will be blown away by your proximity to these tiny flying jewels.  

There are also a number of paths through the forest that Bellavista's experienced guides will lead you along ranging from easy to difficult.  While we didn't see much in the way of wildlife in the forest - aside from a number of tiny frogs and birds high up in the canopy - it is absolutely worth spending time here soaking up the Jurassic-like atmosphere of this amazing place.  

A few words of advice for anyone intending to travel to Bellavista.  It's a cloud forest, so expect it to be damp and often rainy in the afternoon:  dress appropriately.  It's also colder than you might think; a light down vest, layers and waterproof jacket are musts. Binoculars and/or a high-powered telephoto lens are also important to bring.  And consider altitude sickness pills to take full advantage of your time in the highlands of Ecuador.  Five stars. 

Bellavista Cloud Forest

We enjoyed the market and because we went on a Saturday, there were so many things to see!  Our guide, Alijandro was fantastic!  He helped customize the day so that we had more time at the market and still enjoyed some short hikes to nearby lakes and waterfalls.

Our guide was WONDERFUL!!!   He was so kind and educational.  He did not hurry us as he wanted us to enjoy and get the most from the trip. In addition, CarPEdiem agency was a joy to work with.  I would HIGHLY recommend them and our guide for every english speaking person looking for fun things to do when in Ecuador.

The trip I booked included a tourist bus  which was worth the money. 
The Tucan Lodge is a great place to stay. Run by indigenous people. 
Even if you book a 5 day experience,  you will be kept busy til the end, exploring, swimming, kayaking,…
You will see a lot of animals , but be aware,
that you will probably not see all you expect,
but other ones you didn’t expect. 
For example when the water level is medium to high, Anacondas might not be seen, so be prepared. 
I also really enjoyed the self made chocolate and the day at the indigenous village!

Michelle and Paul organised and orchestrated a “turn key” 14 day, Amazon/Galapagos, vacation for myself and my three boys during December 2023.
Transportation, flights, guided tours, hotels, were scheduled and changed according to our needs.
Paul followed up Daily to make sure we’re ok. Michelle was available from early morning to late at night to meet our need.
The cost was more than worth it. It was never about money for them, our great experience always came first.
Every single person they hired to guide us of the same feather. Big smile and eager to make our vacation, a great one.
I would gladly trust him to plan our next trip!

Alejo, our guide, was engaging, knowledgeable, and accommodating. We enjoyed being able to customize our trip to Antisana to accommodate the needs of our group members. We got up close views of condors( our #1 goal for our trip to Ecuador!), saw many other birds, and enjoyed the dramatic landscape. The lunch was delicious and the restaurant had an amazing view.  10/10 would recommend.

We had an amazing trip there. Our boat driver Miguel was really nice and pointed out many animals for us to find. Our guide George was really cheerful and went out of his way to make every little detail about the Amazon more interesting. Although there was a limited selection of ingredients, the cook (Brian) managed to prepare some incredible dishes. I would recommend staying in the cabins rather than the tower, as the tower only has windows that trap the heat inside and bring the temperature really high up. All in all, this lodge was a great part of our trip in the Amazon and I would 100% come back.

The experience at the Sani lodge is quite fantastic. It's deep in the jungle but very comfortable and there is everything there that is needed.
The guides were terrific and some of the sights were unforgettable. All of the staff were friendly and helpful.

We really enjoyed this excursion. Lincoln is a great driver, and expert guide. We stopped at some very nice spots for coffee and refreshments along the route, and our lunch was outstanding. We climbed Cotopaxi under Lincoln’s guidance, and he was very careful to ensure that we were safe and not overdoing it. We saw wonderful bird life at the lake. It was a wonderful day.

We had a great time. Wonderfull people, delicious local food, nice and clean lodge, everything was very well organised and there was a good atmosphere. 

The only thing that was slightly disappointing to us was our personal guide. He was not very talkative and didn't explain us much while there was soo much too see where he could tell us a lot about. Possible the language might be a problem because he spoke just a little English. We have seen other guides from the Tucan lodge who were very enthousiastic and talkative. 

It was an excellent day trip with a variety of activities.  Really enjoyed the hummingbird garden and the waterfalls.  My only recommendation would be to tell guests to bring bug spray as I got many bug bites which were quite sore for several days.

I’m not sure where to start. I’m a single mom traveling with my 3 teenagers across Ecuador, including Galápagos. That in itself is an undertaking. Well, CARPEdm and Tucan lodge made this a super awesome and relaxing experience! The 4 days in the jungle at the Tucan lodge was our favorite part of the 3 week vacation by far! Even though the bus ride and transit to the bridge was exhausting, we were rewarded with the magic of the Cuyabeno jungle immediately, as soon as we stepped foot into the motorized canoe!! Our guide Fausto and our driver Walter were the best!!! Both have Eagle vision and spotted wildlife that was so camouflaged, we never would’ve spotted ourselves! The lodge was magical and beautiful, the kitchen staff went above and beyond and the meals were OUT OF THIS WORLD amazing! My kids can’t stop talking about how good the food was! The tours were super organized and everything went flawless, from the jungle excursions to the canoe rides, indigenous village visit, night walks to making chocolate and coffee!! I can’t state enough how amazing our guide Fausto was. He is full of knowledge and knows where and how to find the animals! We saw 5 different species of monkeys, pink dolphins, caymans, sloths(!!!), anacondas, boa constrictors, tarantulas, banana spiders, Tucans, a harpy eagle(!!!) and so much more!! Walter made us feel safe on the water, even at night! The beds were super comfortable and the showers were (almost) always hot:)). There isn’t a thing I would change about this experience and CARPEDIEM was the nicest and most helpful travel agency to deal with. I was worried that we were on the wrong bus, and WhatsApp’d them at midnight and they responded back immediately to ease my mind! Highly recommend! Great one day excursion!  Our guide was very interesting and knowledgeable so we enjoyed our conversations and the opportunity to learn about life in Ecuador.  Otavalo was just ok ~ many vendors selling the same items that did not look handmade.  Despite this, we enjoyed the day getting out of Quito, having lunch in Otavalo and stopping at another small shop that did sell handmade items!

CARPEdM helped me a lot with the reservation and were superb to deal with. All of the staff I had contact with were professional, knowledgeable, and had a great understanding of the various tours and options. They were also very flexible in adapting everything for my last-minute requirements.

I experienced some difficulties at the lodge itself, and CARPEdM were excellent in resolving them; they took ownership of the problems, fully understood them, and did everything in their power to ensure a positive outcome. Actually going above and beyond. 

I highly recommend CARPEdM in quito. (They are very easy to find, right next to the basilica). I will definitely be using this tour operator again.
