About this trip

We've created the ultimate domestic summer running road trip itinerary with flexible COVID-19 friendly travel adventures that are perfect for solo travelers or groups of friends.  Our Lake Tahoe itinerary takes you through some of the best State Parks and National Forests of California's Sierra Nevada. From flat paths along rivers and mellow meadow trails to longer trail running and high altitude mountain running routes, this itinerary comes with 8 curated running routes in the Lake Tahoe area to mix and match as your energy levels please. Our routes range in length from 4 miles with 200-400 feet of elevation gain on flat trails and bike paths (option to extend) to 12-20 mile loops and point-to-point routes on trails. We've also included recommended vistas, swimming spots, and points of interest. Check out our self-guided runcation for summer and fall 2020 vacations in the outdoors.

This itinerary comes in two versions.

Self-Guided Run Edition:

This includes gpx tracks of running trails, route descriptions, suggested points of interest as well as a list of suggested campground in the Lake Tahoe Area. This version is good for those that prefer to car camp or figure out their own accommodation.  Please note that in this version, you are responsible for booking your own campsite (should you choose to go that route) and checking the status of campground openings due to COVID-19. As of June 12, 2020, several California State Park campgrounds including several in the Lake Tahoe area are now open.

Self-Guided Run + Sleep Edition:

This includes gpx tracks of running trails, route descriptions, suggested points of interest as well as three nights in a 3-star hotel. If you'd like to customize this itinerary for more evenings or style of lodging, contact RuncationTravel@gmail.com with inquiries.

The New Year's Patagonia Runcation: Trail Running El Chalten was an incredible trip. Liz, the guide, was conscientious, organized, and knew exactly what we were doing and where we were going at all times. I had an amazing trip, got to get some incredible runs and views, and met some fantastic people in the process. I highly recommend this trip to anyone who is looking to run off the beaten path, meet new people, and experience Patagonia like no one else typically does. Liz, thank you for your ongoing excellence, and I look forward to another trip in the future!

Runcation in the Dolomites was a dream vacation. It was the perfect mix of challenging yet rewarding running and hiking. We experienced endless breathtaking views and a spectacular scenery, we enjoyed plenty of cappuccinos, wine, delicious food, and restful afternoons, and made new friends to top it all off! If you are a runner who loves trails and beautiful mountains, I strongly encourage you to go on this trip!

The tldr: Do it! This was an amazingly well planned trip (thoughtful planning, clearly),, the runs and views were unforgettable, and I'm already looking at the next one I can go on. The longer version: Runcation in Patagonia was amazing. Every thing was well-planned, the views were unforgettable, the crew was the best you could ask for, we stayed at nice spots with great staff...I could go on and on. Also, as someone who is super type-A, I really appreciate all of the early communication of expectations, what to pack, itineraries, and super quick responses from Liz.
