We've created the ultimate domestic summer running road trip itinerary with flexible COVID-19 friendly travel adventures that are perfect for solo travelers or groups of friends. Our Lake Tahoe itinerary takes you through some of the best State Parks and National Forests of California's Sierra Nevada. From flat paths along rivers and mellow meadow trails to longer trail running and high altitude mountain running routes, this itinerary comes with 8 curated running routes in the Lake Tahoe area to mix and match as your energy levels please. Our routes range in length from 4 miles with 200-400 feet of elevation gain on flat trails and bike paths (option to extend) to 12-20 mile loops and point-to-point routes on trails. This itinerary comes in two versions.
Self-Guided Run Edition:
This includes gpx tracks of running trails, route descriptions, suggested points of interest as well as a list of suggested campground in the Lake Tahoe Area. This version is good for those that prefer to car camp or figure out their own accommodation. Please note that in this version, you are responsible for booking your own campsite (should you choose to go that route) and checking the status of campground openings due to COVID-19. As of June 12, 2020, several California State Park campgrounds including several in the Lake Tahoe area are now open.
Self-Guided Run + Sleep Edition:

How to Get There:
Flying:
The closest commercial airport (45 minutes drive) to North Lake Tahoe is Reno-Tahoe International Airport. It offers 23 non-stop flights serviced by 9 airlines, with connections from any city in the US and abroad. Sacramento International Airport is a 2 hour drive, while San Francisco Airport is only 3.5 hours away.
Driving:
Interstate Highway 80 will take you to Truckee, California, where you can take California State Routes 267, or 89, to Lake Tahoe.
