      About Cambodia

Cambodia, also known as the Kingdom of Cambodia, is located in Southeast Asia's southern portion of the Indochina Peninsula.  It's bordered by Thailand to the northwest, Laos to the northeast, Vietnam to the east, and the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest.

The landscape includes low-lying plains, the Mekong Delta, and mountains. In Cambodia’s capital, Phnom Penh, you can visit the art deco Central Market, the glittering Royal Palace, and the National Museum.

Practiced by about 95% of the population, Theravada Buddhism is the official religion.

      Trip Highlights

In Phnom Penh you’ll experience a sunset cruise on the Mekong and Tonle Sap Rivers, plus visit the Central Market, Wat Phnom, Silk Island, the Killing Fields, Tuol Sleng (S21), take cyclo and tuk-tuk rides, and much more.

Moving on from Phnom Penh you’ll spend time in Battambang, where you’ll enjoy a tuk-tuk adventure into the countryside with stops to see how they make rice paper and sticky rice served in bamboo, as well as a stop at the local prahok (fish paste) market, an experience you’ll surely never forget.  You’ll also visit the austere Killing Cave and witness the spectacle of over 6 million bats as they leave their cave around sunset to feed in the local rice fields.

Cambodia has been on my To Do list for some time – the opportunity to do this with a tour geared to photography is obviously a great option. This way you get to meet new friends and enjoy your travel photography with knowledgeable guides and a team that takes you to all the high spots but also lets you meet the locals and see their everyday life. The schedule is balanced with time to relax and explore on your own as well as advice and support on developing your travel photography skills.” - Barbara O.

The trip was great! We had a good introduction to the Khmer culture of both yesterday and today, and we had a chance to visit historic and religious places. There were many opportunities for good photos. I particularly liked the tuk-tuk adventures and seeing the Cambodian people in both the cities and in the countryside.” - Vivian N.

I really enjoyed my visit to Cambodia. The people were warm and welcoming and willing to have us photograph them at their daily activities. We had the opportunity to see the cities and countryside, crafts people and markets, temples and monks.” - Craig M.

      Reviews

Continental DRIFTER’s Northern Spain trip was the trip of a lifetime, but I will definitely travel with Ralph again, so there’s going to be competition for that “trip of a lifetime” title! With a small group of delightful companions, we saw spectacular views and architecture, ate amazing local food, drank delicious local wine, visited interesting locations with fun and knowledgeable local guides, and had so many laughs. Highlights included the sheer cliff faces overlooking Zumaia Beach, the lush terraced vineyards over the impossibly blue Bay of Biscay, the charming beachfront of San Sebastian, the ridiculously delicious tapas crawl on Calle Laurel in Logroño, and spending part of the trip in a little 13th century walled town in Rioja. Ralph takes care of every detail, so all that’s left to do is to marvel, learn, and enjoy. And eat. And eat. I loved spending enough time in each location to really get a feel for it instead of rushing from place to place checking items off a list, and Ralph curates the coolest experiences, like olive oil farm tours and cooking classes. 47 thumbs up from me!

I have recently returned from this trip to Northern Spain and I highly recommend it! We toured wineries, had an olive oil tasting in an olive grove, attended a cooking class, took tours of churches and architecture, and so much else! At each stop Ralph had hired guides with extensive knowledge of their area, who were interesting, helpful, and punctual. (In Ramon's case, hilarious as well!) After daily excursions, we had the late afternoon and evening free to wander on our own and explore the three different cities we stayed in. The food was fantastic and fresh. We never had a bad meal. The hotels were beautiful. My favorite memory will always be sitting on the outdoor patio of a beautiful winery in the sun, eating pintxos (Basque tapas), drinking incredible wine, chatting with the really nice group of people on the trip; all with a beautiful view of the Bay of Biscay. It was definitely one of the highlights for me! I would recommend Ralph and Continental Drifter to anyone looking for an amazing travel experience!
