Discover the rugged beauty of Spain's Camino del Norte along the spectacular Basque coast.
Beginning in the charming seaside town of Hondarribia, you'll hike dramatic cliffside trails, wander through colorful fishing villages, and take in breathtaking views of the Bay of Biscay. Each day brings a new adventure, authentic Basque cuisine, and the simple rhythm of life on the Camino.
Get ready for five days of adventure, connection, all while taking in incredible coastal scenery!
After gathering for a group breakfast in Hondarribia, we will take a short transfer (10 minutes by car) to the starting point of our Day 1 walk.
Our Camino begins at the historic Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, perched high above the Basque coastline. From here, we’ll hike approximately 19.4 kilometers over 5–6 hours, following the breathtaking ridgeline of Mount Jaizkibel. Towering cliffs, rolling green hills, and sweeping views of the Bay of Biscay make this one of the most iconic and scenic stretches of the entire Camino del Norte.
The day finishes with a memorable descent into San Sebastián, where the city's famous beaches and vibrant Old Town welcome us after a rewarding day on the trail. After checking into our hotel, you'll have time to unwind, explore the waterfront, and experience the world-renowned Basque food scene before gathering together to celebrate the first day of the journey.
After a rewarding first day on the trail, today is all about slowing down and enjoying San Sebastián at your own pace. Sleep in, recover with a sauna or spa session, grab a coffee along La Concha Beach, or simply wander the city's charming streets and waterfront. For those looking for a little more adventure, an optional surf lesson offers the chance to experience one of Europe's most iconic urban beaches from a different perspective.
As the day unfolds, we'll do what San Sebastián is famous for...eating delicious food! From neighborhood cafés and bustling pintxos bars to unforgettable local restaurants, you'll have plenty of opportunities to experience why this city is considered one of the world's great culinary destinations. We'll gather for an incredible dinner together before turning in early, rested and ready for the next two days of hiking along Spain's spectacular Basque coast.
After breakfast in San Sebastián, we’ll leave the city behind and begin the next stage of the Camino del Norte toward Orio. Today’s walk covers approximately 16 kilometers and takes around 4–5 hours, climbing above the coastline before winding through green hills, wooded paths, and quiet Basque countryside. Along the way, we’ll look back on sweeping views of San Sebastián and continue west toward the fishing villages and vineyards that define this part of the route.
Our day ends in Orio, a small riverside town known for its maritime character, colorful streets, and relaxed local feel. After checking into our hotel, we’ll have time to recover, explore the town, and enjoy a well-earned meal together. This stage offers a great mix of challenge and scenery while setting us up for the longer coastal walk still ahead.
Today is one of the most memorable days on the Camino del Norte. After breakfast, we’ll set out from Orio and hike approximately 6–7 hours, following rugged coastal trails through the picturesque villages of Zarautz and Getaria before continuing toward Deba. This stretch is famous for its dramatic ocean vistas, rolling green hills, seaside cliffs, and charming Basque towns that invite us to pause, refuel, and soak in the experience.
We’ll finish the day in the historic coastal town of Deba, where the mountains meet the sea and centuries of Camino history come together. After checking into our hotel, you’ll have time to relax, explore the waterfront, and enjoy another incredible Basque dinner. It’s a fitting conclusion to our final day on the trail and a chance to reflect on the miles traveled, the friendships strengthened, and an unforgettable journey along one of Europe’s most beautiful coastlines.
As your stay comes to an end, we'll enjoy a final group breakfast. During our meal, we'll discuss and reflect on our time together on the Camino and set up checkpoints for the next few months to keep in touch and have accountability towards making changes and adjustments going forward.
You will be responsible for a taxi, Uber or shuttle to the airport.
