Join us for a weekend of car-based camping (with some cabin options for our non campers!), making friends with the local park koalas, sitting around the campfire, walking or riding the rail trail, and checking out waterfalls, with amazing, supportive, body positive peeps, free from judgement, diet talk, or any expectation of fitness.
The location for this camping weekend is the Otways Tourist Park, 1hr 20mins from Geelong, and 2hrs from Melbourne CBD.
Start Time: Arrive at the Otways Tourist Park anytime after 3pm. Drive in the main entrance, turn right, and drive to the end, we will be in the big grassed area at the end.
Finish Time: we need to vacate the park by 10am on Sunday morning.
Otways Tourist Park is situated on 3.2 ha of landscaped parkland, located at the foot of the OTWAY RANGES, in the middle of the rural township of Gellibrand. We offer an alternative to the hustle and bustle of a sea-side resort town, yet we are only a 40 minute drive away from The Great Ocean Road and beaches. We are within 20 minutes of the OTWAY FLY TREETOP WALK and within a 30 minute drive from TURTONS TRACK TOURIST DRIVE and some of the most SPECTACULAR WATERFALLS and SCENIC DRIVES in the OTWAYS. Lavers Hill and Melba Gully, known as "The Jewel of the Otways" are only 30 kms away. Here you can enjoy Rainforest walks as well as see the Glow Worms at night. Rivers in close proximity to the park offer good fishing, Gellibrand River is renowned as "Home of the Blackfish".
The campsite has toilets and showers. Showers are $1 for 6 mins - please bring $1 coins. There is a bistro on site with fabulous, huge pub-type meals if you don't feel like cooking.
You will need to have your own camping gear for this one. But the best part is that you will be next to your car, so you can bring all the mattresses, doonas and pillows you desire! You will need a tent, a sleeping mat/mattress, sleeping bag or doona, a camping chair, your food, something to eat with/on, and a way to cook it (if you want to cook it). All these bits are available cheaply at Kmart or anaconda if you are just starting out, or if you prefer, we might have some bits you can borrow - shoot us a message at email@example.com
The plan for this weekend is easy. Set up your tent. And relax!!! You can choose to explore Old Beechy Rail Trail that goes through the park, or check out the local waterfalls in the area. Different waterfalls have different access/difficulty for viewing, we will discuss them when we get there, but there's something for everyone.
Is it for you? YES! I cannot stress enough this is VERY beginner friendly, or those just starting out. You can opt in or out of any activity, and only do those you are comfortable with. You don't need any level of fitness, there's plenty of downtime for naps, or heading across the road for coffee! In fact the whole weekend is downtime!
- Tent (ask us to bring one for you if you don't have one)
- Sleeping stuff (sleeping bag, doona or blankets - bring plenty if you get sold, and an inflatable mat or foam mattress to sleep on, don't forget a pillow)
- Food and snacks for meals other than those included (feel free to bring anything to share!)
- Esky/cooler (incl ice) - ice is available at the park
- Cooking stove (or use ours if you don't have one!)
- Camp chair - this is THE most important thing to remember, you will spend a lot of time in it, so make sure its comfy!
- Bug spray
- A big hat
- A book
- Warm clothes for nighttime. Most people have Oodies or similar to keep warm.
- Clothes for walks to waterfalls/or along the rail trail. Bring changes of clothes in case its raining.
