Cape Coast Castle, Elmina Castle, and Kakum National Park are three of the most significant and historical sites in Ghana, West Africa, each offering a unique glimpse into the country's rich history and natural beauty.

Elmina Castle, also in the Central Region of Ghana, is the oldest European-built structure south of the Sahara, constructed by the Portuguese in 1482. Like Cape Coast Castle, Elmina served as a major trading post for gold and other goods before becoming one of the central hubs for the transatlantic slave trade. The castle is a poignant reminder of the atrocities of slavery, with its dungeons and the infamous Door of No Return. Today, Elmina Castle is a museum and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offering educational tours that highlight the castle's history and its impact on the region and the world.

Kakum National Park is a stark contrast to the historical gravity of the castles, offering a glimpse into Ghana's rich biodiversity. Located in the coastal environs of the Central Region, this conservation area is home to over 300 species of birds, numerous species of mammals, including forest elephants, and many types of butterflies and other insects. The park is renowned for its Canopy Walkway, which is suspended 30 meters above the ground and offers a unique vantage point from which to observe the park's lush rainforests and wildlife. Kakum National Park is one of the few places in Africa with a canopy walkway and offers guided tours that educate visitors on the local ecosystem and conservation efforts.

Early Morning: The Group will depart from hotel for Cape Coast. Visit the Riverside for the Last Bath. Our First stop is Assin Manso Slave Ancestral River where the Slaves had their last bath before moving them to Cape Coast and Elmina castles for final shipment. At Assin Manso, you will be told the history and walk through the Ancestral path to see the slave river where travelers will have opportunity to pray to their Ancestors.  

• Midday: Tour Cape Coast Castle with a moment of reflection. First stop is the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Cape Coast Castle. Experience a poignant walk through history as you explore the castle’s dungeons and the infamous ‘Door of No Return.

 • Afternoon: The Group will complete Hotel check-in and relaxation. 

 • Evening: Group Dinner at a local restaurant.

The Group will have dinner at a local restaurant near the Elmina Castles. 

Duration: 1.0-2.0 hours 

Morning: Breakfast at the hotel, then visit Elmina Castle. Elmina Castle is a white-washed Medieval Castle on the coast of Ghana. It was the first – and for many centuries – the largest, European building constructed in tropical Africa. Yet its grandeur, as well as its picturesque surroundings with blue skies, sandy beaches, and tropical palms, disguise a dark history – Elmina Castle was the last place that thousands of African slaves would ever see of their homeland. Many horrors transpired within the walls of the fortress, which have never been erased by time. 

Notes: Aim to arrive at Elmina Castle by 9 AM to avoid the larger crowds and the heat of the day. Guided Tour: Allocate 2-3 hours for a guided tour of the castle, focusing on its history as a major slave trading post. The tour typically includes visits to the dungeons and the "Door of No Return," offering profound insights into the transatlantic slave trade. Reflection Time: After the tour, take a moment for personal reflection by the sea.

 • Midday: Renaming ceremony near Elmina. A unique opportunity to reconnect and reunite with your culture, roots and bloodline. You will receive a traditional African Name, which will be given to you according to the day of the week you are born and become a member of an African village and enjoy the village life such as clay pottery making, participate in a traditional cultural performance that will be displayed to welcome you into the community by the locals. This experience is for the descendants only, as it is a special pilgrimage for special healing process for us!

• Afternoon: Lunch near Elmina Castle to eat traditional Ghanian food.  Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant near the park. This is a good time to try local dishes like jollof rice or kelewele (spicy fried plantains)

Visit Kakuma National Park for the Canopy Walk: Start your park visit with the canopy walkway, offering a unique perspective of the rainforest from above. The walkway is one of only a few in Africa and provides opportunities to see wildlife and exotic birds. Guided Nature Walk: After the canopy, consider a guided nature walk on the ground to explore the park's flora and fauna more closely. The park is home to many species, including elephants, leopards, and over 300 bird species.

 • Evening: Return to Accra and check into Hotel
