      About this trip

Make new friends on and off the field as you experience a tropical island paradise whilst helping to educate underserved kids through the power of soccer.

Cape Verde is a tiny but beautiful nation composed of sub-tropical and volcanic islands in the Atlantic Ocean. The former Portuguese colony, now known for its unique Creole, Portuguese-African culture, is situated about 500 kilometers off the coast of Senegal, and once served as an important center of the slave trade.

Santiago is the largest and main island of Cape Verde, located in the South. Tarrafal, a town on the northern part of Santiago, boasts the  best beaches on the island with their white sand, turquoise water and fishing boats bobbing in peaceful waves. The town is the epitome of a tropical paradise, with beautiful weather all year round.

Soccer and music are part of the lifeblood of Cape Verde. You'll experience all this as well as the renowned morabeza (Creole for hospitality) of its people and you’ll see why many have come – and never left.

      Make a difference

You’ll join the world-respected non-profit organization Delta Cultura, using the power of the beautiful game to educate underprivileged children and to build a better future.

Opportunities for young people in Cape Verde are extremely limited, due to its isolated location and lack of natural resources. Cape Verde is prone to drought and has little arable land,  facts that have resulted in increased emigration in recent years, further weakening the country’s social infrastructure.

You'll help Delta Cultura deliver activities ranging from aerobic and yoga, to educational and awareness campaigns,or to art and creativity.

You'll also be following in the footsteps of professional soccer players! Click here to read about Bundesliga star Alex Esswein's visit to Delta Cultura as part of his support of the Common Goal movement.

I had a great trip, especially the volunteer work with the local people was amazing. It’s the best way to experience a country. I liked that the trip was planned in close dialogue with me so I could express what I prefer.

This trip was amazing! Black Arrow and Third Half arranged for us to do a little bit of everything: We explored Cartagena, we went to the beach, we visited the mountains. We stopped by a local non-profit and played soccer with their youth. We visited Palenque and learned about Colombia's Afro-Colombian heritage. Black Arrow and Third Half thought of everything - all of our transportation, meals, and excursions were set up ahead of time. All we had to do was make sure we got to the bus on time. This trip was top notch. I can't wait for the next one.

I had a great time. Every detail was well organized. The food was delicious, however, we could have had less time or more snack items provided in between meals

This trip was brilliantly concieved and impecably executed. It was full of learning, adventure, and fun. Everything you would want from a journey. My only suggestion is that more warning be given about the choppy boat ride over the ocean so that people with motion sickness take medicine in sufficient time before. Also, I would have loved to get a bit more insight into the safter record of the captain lol. But I really have no complaints. Thank you for an amazing time. I hope to reconnect with you all again.
