 Cayambe Coca Reserve

 The Cayambe-Coca Ecological Reserve covers some 400 000 hectares of land. It enjoys a great deal of biodiversity and the reserve can be easily divided into lowland rainforest and mountain rainforest regions. There are lakes, rivers and hot springs spread across the reserve and the hot springs have made the reserve a very popular weekend destination.

Cayambe Coca Reserve
Climb a beautiful volcano in the North of Ecuador

 

Day 1. Our Private Cayambe Coca Reserve Hiking Papallacta Hot Springs Full Day Tour will start from Quito at 07.00 am.  Our private transportation will pick you up from your hotel and then We start our Private Cayambe Coca Reserve Hiking Papallacta Hot Springs Full Day Tour making some stops on the way. If we’re lucky, we can see condors in the Rocky Mountains. This is one of the endangered species of the Andes Mountains. We will do another stop-over Cayambe Coca reserve where we have two hiking options:


Agua y vida trail. Option 1 This trail is 7.5km 4 – 5 hours hiking.

We will drive to the antenas área 4194msnm. Where we will start our Cayambe Coca Reserve Hike. There are some lagoons around the área. Black Lagoon, Parcacocha Lagoon, and Andean Bear Lagoon are some of them we have the opportunity to see. Almost the end of the path, we will pass some pre mountains forest and the Baños Waterfall. Once we will get to the east entrance guard 3700msnm, our driver will take us from there and drive to Papallacta hot springs. Box lunch is included


Andean bear (spectacled bear) Option 2 Our hike will start from the highway and we will take a trail of 5 hours 8km. If we are lucky, a really good chance is to watch the Andean bear over this path. There are some lagoons around the área we can see. Almost the end of the path, we will pass some pre mountains forest and the Baños Waterfall. Once we will get to the east entrance guard, our driver will take us from there and drive to Papallacta hot springs. Box lunch is included.

We will spend a few hours into the Papallacta hot springs after our Cayambe Coca hike.

From messaging about different options to booking through to a pululahua crater hike and then equator line museum it was great experience. A fabulous walk down into the crater (1 mile down) then two hilly hikes and back up to the rim. So glad we had messaged with Patricio before booking as he suggested the perfect trip for us. Lovely lunch provided. Marcial was a great guide plus a sweet dog we named Bobi who walked the whole day with us. Then we went to the equator line museum which was informative and fun. Would totally recommend
