About this trip

BayernTrips is partnering with Cedar Springs Brewing Company in Michigan, to explore the roots of their Bavarian and Bohemian brewing and dining traditions. The trip is anchored by a traditional May Pole Festival  and Munich's Frühlingfest, & you'll enjoy an insider's view of the alpine  regions of southern Bavaria and Austria. We first enjoy Salzburg and nearby Berchtesgaden before heading in to the Czech Republic to the UNESCO World Heritage city of  Český Krumlov, followed by a visit to the original Budweis. Back in Munich, we have two evenings at the  Münchner Frühlingsfest, Oktoberfest's little sister. In addition to amazing beer and food, there is lots of history, scenery and great times!

There is also an optional "add on" trip to the Rheinland to sample the classic ales of Köln, with their Kölsch Biers and the spectacular Dom Cathedral, and Dusseldorf, home of Altbier.

I am from the USA and studied the German Language and European History at Northern Michigan University. After college I spent several years in the hospitality industry on Mackinac Island, Michigan and was later Co-President of a successful plastic injection molding company. I'm also part-owner of a microbrewery in Michigan and am a certified Diplom BierSommelier. With my many Bavarian friends and contacts, I'll unlock the Bavarian culture for you during during one of my unforgettable tours!

Scott organises PHENOMENAL tours of Bavaria. His tours are NOT the standard motorcoach tours; they are FAR superior! Point to point within the various cities, is by foot, unless the distance ins too great, in which case it is by public transport, or very occasionally by taxi. From city to city travel is normally by rail. The elimination of a coach, reduces costs, keeps the travel groups at a more manageable size and allows guests to enjoy quality travel time. Smaller group numbers also allows Scott to give more of his attention to each traveller. All restaurants visited, offer a unique blend of fantastic cuisine and a smattering of local history. For example, one was originally a 16C monastery, and of course no visit to Munich is complete without a visit to the famous Hofbräuhaus. There is never any such thing as dead time- Scott delivers accurate history lectures on each region and city, before, during and after departure to each new destination. I have travelled with BayernTrips extensively and have NEVER encountered another traveller who was dissatisfied. I cannot recommend BayernTrips enough! As I write this review, I am already planning my next vacation with BayernTrips.

Scott was an extremely knowledgeable tour guide who gave us a great overview of each city with a walking tour. Scott struck a great balance between narrated tours/activities and time on our own to explore. Both Scott and Vonia provided great recommendations for food and specific market purchases. The hotels were very conveniently and centrally located in each city which facilitated sight seeing. We had an amazing time. Thanks for a well organized tour!
Great trip all around -- Scott's knowledge of local culture and history really shines. My fourth trip with them and every time I've seen and learned new things and places. More like traveling with friends than a tour group.
Laura and I had a great time. Thank you, Scott and Vonia! The trip was very well organized but still gave you plenty of time for doing your own thing after the tours. The bus really made it enjoyable to relax and party while traveling. See you again next year! - Michael Cummiskey
Another great trip with Scott and Vonia Stephens. We made a lot of great new friends from the Cincinnati area, North Carolina, California, Jersey and met up with some friends from a previous trip with Scott. As usual, the trips are well planned, accommodations and food are top notch, and of course the beer was great. Looking forward to travelling with Scott and Vonia in the future. Chuck and Pat
