About this trip

Ready for part summer camp and part retreat? Come join us for glamping and yoga in the lush Blue Ridge Mountains. If wagging your tail in downdog, eating farm-to-table feasts, and relaxing into ancient mountains sounds like your kind of Covid relief plan, read on.

Our home for the week will be the spectacular Paint Rock Farm, a 163-acre organic hemp farm and private conservation forest. Overlooking the French Broad River and surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest, this location beckons you to slow down and breathe it all in.

Once we arrive at the top of the gravel road, you won’t need (or want) to be anywhere else for the rest of the week. You’ll feel the sweet mountain breeze pass through the bohemian-style glamping cabin as you drop your bags and your burdens. Put your feet up and settle onto your private deck looking over the river or the meadow.

As the sun rises over the dewy meadow each morning, we’ll gather in a renovated tobacco barn for an energizing and creative yoga practice. During the afternoon restorative session, we’ll release creaky joints, learn therapy ball massage, and sink into yin poses. A week of yoga will peel away layers of aches and anxieties. You will leave deeply realigned and strengthened from the inside out.

Possibly the best part of the week: You won’t be responsible for a single meal. Our private chef will source from dozens of bakeries, creameries, and area farms to prepare the best of the summer bounty. She knows how to celebrate delicious Southern food traditions with healthy meals that honor dietary restrictions.

Activities

You are free to join a group hike, listen to live music, or enjoy a bonfire. There will also be plenty of downtime to read, nap in your cabin, or just stare out into the wildflowers. FYI, we’ll be easing up on the booze and the wifi is limited. But you can plug in to the surrounding forest and there’s a wide-open sky of intoxicating constellations.

Planning Your Trip

On the weekends before and after the retreat, we encourage you to explore Western North Carolina. Asheville offers boisterous breweries, lots of music, and a thriving arts scene. The town nearest to Paint Rock Farm, Hot Springs, offers natural thermal springs and is a hiker’s paradise with the Appalachian Trail passing right through town. We are happy to offer suggestions but we do recommend making reservations well in advance. We will coordinate drop-offs for local tourism or to get you heading home.

Inclusivity Statement

We commit to intentional inclusivity. We welcome the glorious spectrum of colors, genders, shapes, sizes, adult ages, and yoga levels. We understand that as we accept more parts of ourselves, we accept more parts of humanity. Given the rustic environment and the physicality of the event, we will do our best to accommodate varied abilities and ensure that all activities are optional. Building a diverse community takes effort and we are here for that rewarding work.

A great week to chill with plenty of space and time to take excursions, enjoy group meals and get deeper into yoga.

The retreat was fabulous. The Stepladder Ranch and Creamery is a great location. There are wonderful views of the hillsides and the Pacific Ocean from the main home. My room was spacious, well-appointed, and afforded the same great views from the bedroom and bathroom. Sadie knows how to put together a trip that is special and memorable. The food was great -simple, healthy, organic, and also amazingly tasty. Rick's special drinks were a delight. We toured the creamery, and the highlight was visiting with the baby goats. And Sadie's yoga - in an old barn looking over the green hillside - was the fabulousness that one can count on from Sadie. And last but not least, the people who joined the retreat were friendly and interesting. Thanks Sadie!

Sadie has a gift for putting people at ease and being in tune with the needs of the group. Each yoga class was calibrated perfectly to the time of day and the general mood of the participants. The food provided by our stellar chef was beautifully presented and prepared with health and nutrition in mind, yet there was no sacrifice in taste and experience. One highlight amongst many was the delicious avocado margarita... honestly one of the best cocktails I've ever had. The Stepladder Creamery is a charming and lovely setting - the entire weekend was a wonderful respite and one I hope to repeat!

This was an amazing experience! The yoga was excellent and the setting perfect! The food was amazing as well as the avocado margaritas that welcomed us on the first nite. The whole vibe of the weekend was very special and very relaxing. Looking forward to another one!

Had a great time! Trip was well organized, great food, unique & beautiful venue, cultural experience and great yoga. Relaxing and restorative yoga each day allowed participants to disconnect, relax and decompress. Superb culinary experience! Meals were planned and prepared daily by chef Alice. Home style country kitchen provided opportunity to observe preparation of daily farm to table menus and participation in cooking classes. Excursions included visiting a balsamic vinegar producer, tour and tasting at a local winery, hiking and exploring local villages. I Romini is a unique accommodation within a converted 13th century Augustinian monastery. You can connect with nature, enjoy the beauty of the Tuscan mountains and enjoy complete tranquility. Sincere thanks to Sadie, Alice and Danilo for an extraordinary experience!
