About this trip

“If you are looking to enhance your collection of iconic road climbs seeped in Grand Tour history, then these ten stages will see you sorted for a while. Even though we also spend many kilometres on roads much less ridden. The French Alps do a good imitation of the Italian flair for roads that are ‘perfection-on-two-wheels’, and have also played host to so many of the legendary battles of the Tour de France. Every stage of this route contains at least one, usually several, of these reknowned climbs. But ‘the ones that the Tour missed’ are also threaded into the mix , as is the way on any CCC event. Giant cols such as the Galibier, the Alpe d’Huez and the Iseran stand out above pearls such as the Arpettaz, the Cyclotourists and the Mont Colombis , and yet the latter will be remembered just as fondly.
This event includes many summits over 2,000m altitude which is usually a catalyst for drama – high passes rarely deliver a straight-forward ride. Often they will test your resistance to harsh conditions. Sometimes they will feed you war stories to dine out on. BUT always they will give you memories to treasure.”

We do not come to conquer mountains, we come to meet them. They will always be greater than us. There will always be another one to climb. We often give animalistic adjectives to climbs in order to ‘honour’ them; beast, brutal, savage. Those who ‘conquer’ them are praised as being ‘animals’ or ‘machines’. I can’t relate to any of this. I neither seek to smash a climb nor trash myself. Quite the contrary: I seek to reach the top feeling that I have ridden well, feel strong and can look forward to the next one. I focus on forgetting myself: absorbing myself in the smells, the light, the views, and my own sensations. It’s all part of an incessant dialogue between myself and my surroundings. I’m a romantic, albeit a very stubborn one. I’m in love with the beauty of the climb and the places that it takes us. Moments of liberating happiness only occur when one is locked into the present moment. Digging deep into one’s own reserves helps us to do that.

What an amazing event! A fantastic course, friendly and extremely helpful staff, wonderful hotels and a great group of riders. I will certainly be back!
A truly amazing experience! The Alps are truly magnificent and cycling them is the best way to feel and appreciate this epic landscape. Phil will encourage and inspire you to push yourself into achieving more than you think you are capable of and with his team of enthusiastic support staff to keep you well watered and fed and with excellent mechanical back up for your bike you're in the best possible hands to achieve what at first glance may seem impossible.
Experience of a lifetime! The Alps are absolutely an amazing place to cycle, the history, mystique, beauty. Phil is absolutely the best.
This was an epic journey of monumental proportions for the mind and body. The total experience was surreal and sublime, sometimes delirious but overall glorious. The weather was mostly bad, the road surface sometimes existed and the gradients and distance were infrequently normal.. The support team was saintly and the concept was neuroplastic.
