About this trip

It's early April and should be a beautiful time to visit Georgetown and Charleston with the abundant azaleas in bloom!

The journey to Charleston begins with a stop in Georgetown where a step-on tour guide hops on our bus and treats us to a one hour tour of what was once a bustling colonial port city and is now filled with legacies and lore as told by our Swamp Fox guide.  Swamp Fox has been sharing stories in Georgetown since 1978 and has been featured in Southern Living Magazine.

The Charleston itinerary is packed with a variety of experiences during our two day visit  to include a narrated historic trolley tour, a narrated culinary walking tour featuring tastings at restaurants exemplifying more than 300 years of rich culinary traditions and a tour of the Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon.  Built in 1771 as a commercial exchange and custom house, the Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon has been a Charleston landmark for nearly 250 years.  Today, costumed interpreters bring the stories of this Charleston "must see" alive despite the rumors of numerous hauntings!  Finally, we also spend one morning the Charleston Museum.  This is the oldest museum in the United States.  It contains a highly regarded collection and features multiple galleries on history as well as natural history.  The exhibits on silver and historic textiles and clothing are very unique.

In addition to the scheduled tours, there will be time for your own exploration of this very walkable and picturesque historic district filled with candy colored buildings, lush gardens and fantastic shops, galleries and markets.  Our hotel, the Homewood Suites on Meeting Street ,makes the exploration easy!

I love to travel so in my partially retired life I decided to adapt my passion for travel along with 25 years of experience in Travel & Tourism to create Trips by Patty. I received a BA in American History from UNC-Chapel Hill. Not knowing what I was going to do with that degree, I started working as a desk clerk at a hotel in Raleigh. I enjoyed the hotel business and the career path began. Hotel operations and sales, Convention Center operations and marketing, destination marketing with a Convention Visitors Bureau and even a stint as a tour guide. What happened to the history degree? Well, many times when I am escorting my trips I share the history of the destinations we visit. It's a great feeling to take your career skills and adapt them to your own small business. I love what I do and hope you'll join me on a trip one day!

We had a great time. This was a first time using Trips by Patty and we'd definitely recommend for anyone else considering a trip with her. Everything was very well organized and exceeded our expectations. A perfect blend of activities to keep us busy but some downtime to relax or do things on our own.

Fabulous trip! As always, Patty thought of everything. The hotel was fantastic, with the best hotel breakfast I've ever seen. The local tour guide was wonderful--engaging, knowledgeable, and friendly. We loved Greenville. It's a beautiful city with great restaurants and lovely outdoor green space. It was a real treat to see Hamilton at the Peace Center, which is a beautiful auditorium well located right downtown. Everything about this trip was perfect.
