Charquini is a majestic snow-capped mountain near La Paz featuring a melting glacier and the stunning, vivid-green Emerald Lagoon at its base. It is the ultimate destination for high-altitude trekking, accessible snow encounters, and breathtaking alpine photography in the Royal Range of the Andes.
You must cancel or amend your booking at least 48 hours before the tour's departure time
Mandatory Acclimatization: Due to the extreme altitude of the glacier, we highly recommend a minimum of 2 to 3 days of prior acclimatization in La Paz to ensure a safe and comfortable experience.
Physical Effort Level: Moderate. The hike is relatively short (around 1.5 to 2 hours total) but the high-altitude atmospheric pressure makes breathing significantly harder.
Adventure Risk Level: Low to Medium. It is a safe high-mountain trek led by expert mountain guides, but guests must strictly follow safety instructions on the glacier moraine to avoid slips.
Best Time to Visit: Dry Season (May to October) offers stable, sunny weather and crystal-clear lagoon views. The wet season (November to April) brings beautiful heavy snow but lower visibility.
Layered Clothing: 3 layers are required (thermal base layer, a fleece jacket or sweater, and a windproof/waterproof winter coat).
Footwear: Sturdy hiking boots with good ankle support and grip. Regular running shoes or sneakers are not safe for the loose gravel and snow.
Sun Protection: Polarized sunglasses (essential to protect your eyes from snow blindness), SPF 50+ sunscreen, and a sun hat or cap.
Cold Weather Accessories: A beanie (wool hat), thermal gloves, and a scarf or neck gaiter to protect against freezing mountain winds.
Hydration & Extra Energy: At least 1.5 liters of water and personal high-energy snacks (chocolates, energy bars, or dried fruits).
Daypack: A small, comfortable backpack (20-30 liters) to carry your layers, water, and camera equipment.
Personal Essentials: Original passport or ID, personal medications, and cash in Bolivianos (BOB) for small personal expenses or souvenirs at the base camp.
