      About this trip

      CHOQUEQUIRAO TREK 4 DAYS

Choquequirao trek four days takes you to the last refuge of the Incas considered as such for all the vestiges that exist in the place, such as ceremonial plazas, warehouses, houses and many agricultural terraces that suggest inhabited by many people who fled of the Spanish conquerors. Choquequiraro is a significant archaeological site very interest full of history and mystery. Many consider that the place is much larger than Machu Picchu and much more interesting. Only 40% of the total area was rescued, the rest is covered in vegetation but it is still very interesting and worth visiting. The only way to get there is by walking, usually takes four days to attend two days hiking to reach the Inca site and one day to explore the are and then return along the same path. If you have enough time to visit this place, we recommend that you prepare physically well since this is one of the hardest treks that we have in Cusco.

Had an excellent time on the trek. We had a brilliant guide Willy who took good care of the group, kept morale up, ensured we were safe when bad weather/landslides impacted the route, and was great at explaining various aspects of the landscape and Inca history. I celebrated my birthday on the trek and Willy went above and beyond to ensure I had a birthday cake! The accommodation was as expected for a trek of this nature and transfers to/from the trek were easy. In terms of improvements, better communication/organisation is needed from the Machu Picchu Reservations office before the trek (e.g I got chased for payment despite me paying in person in the office). The chefs were great and the food we did have was delicious but we felt there was not enough food for everyone (although we heard from other groups this wasn’t an issue so maybe was just a one off) and we felt breakfast (e.g a pancake with some fruit) was not substantial/protein filled enough for a day of hiking.

This Machu Picchu tour by car and train is legit and one of the most affordable options out there. Some notes to keep in mind: - online communication from the company is poor, so you'll need to physically come to their office in Cusco before your trip, otherwise the actual tour was well organized and went smoothly. - you can call them via one of WA numbers, they will pick up most likely - reservations of Machu Picchu circuit was somewhat misleading - they first said I'd get 1 or 2 and then it was 4+mountain. I still enjoyed it tremendously but miscommunication is where it seems to be a bit questionable. - you won't be alone on this trip, and there will be others hiking from Hidroelectrica. It is mostly flat route but there are a couple of spots that may be a bit challenging for people with limited mobility. It is a very nice hike though. - there is a considerable part of the road that is both curvy and not maintained. Land slides are very possible. It could be a bit scary at times despite the excellent driving skills of the driver so if you're not into that kind of adventure take a train from Cusco or Ollantaytambo. - the hostel does exist and for one night it's doable. The sheets and room were clean, shower was working. It's definitely nothing fancy and you always can book something else - there's a plenty of hotels in Aguas Calientes. - If you're considering doing a trip by car both ways, keep in mind that you may feel rushed at Machu Picchu as you need to allocate 2.5-3 hours to hike back to a pickup point. Taking train back you have a bit more time to enjoy the area. I really enjoyed this trip, it was my first time at Machu Picchu and I'm glad that everything went well. I was really happy that I went back by train and not by car. I would recommend it to others, considering everything above.

It was not helpful to be told by wetravel that the tour started 13.30, when it did in fact start at 13.00. Only a phone call from Machu Picchu Reservations at 13.10 alerted us to this discrepancy. Needs to be sorted

My girlfriend and I did the 4 days Salkantay trek. It was an amazing experience and was even better than our expectations. Our guide Alex H. always had a positive vibe and knew a lot about nature and culture. The accomodations are really beautiful and the food is absolutely delicious. Every time you arrive at a new spot, the chefs were already preparing a lot of healthy and delicous food. Your stuff is carried by horses and walking the trek is doable if you're medium fit. There is always an option to go by horse or train. Defenitely recomending!

Went on a 5 days Salkantay Trek with MP Réservations. Alex Human was an excellent guide, very energetic, professional and cultured. He was very interesting to listen to and made the toughest moments feel easier with his sense of humor. The food was prepared by a team of 4 cooks and was absolutely delicious! Definitely recommend the experience.
