About this trip

Experience a time honored tradition in North Carolina with a visit to the Christmas at Biltmore event in Asheville.    No other residence in America offers a more authentic, original, and inspiring view of life during the Guided Age at Christmas than the Biltmore House.   Our visit includes not only the country's largest privately owned home but the Estates's Antler Hill Village and Winery all dressed out for the Holidays.  An added treat is the Downton Abbey Exhibit on display for a limited time at Biltmore. The Exhibition, based on the beloved television show, transports you to post-Edwardian England, where the characters and the iconic house come to life. You’ll be immersed in the fascinating social history, culture, and some of the most memorable moments from the show’s six-season run.

“You’ll find there’s never a dull moment in this house”

-Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham

DoubleTree by Hilton Asheville

Trip accommodations are located at DoubleTree by Hilton Asheville. This is located just outside of the gates of the Biltmore Estate and within walking distance of the Historic Biltmore Village.  Biltmore Village is a charming, little enclave created to house employees of George Vanderbilt’s sprawling Biltmore Estate.  The Village is made up of stuccoed cottages converted to shops, galleries and restaurants.   Also, located in The Village is The Cathedral of All Souls, a Romanesque Revival landmark.  There will be optional time in the afternoon to visit the Biltmore Village.

6pm - Cash bar opens

7pm -  Buffet Dinner

December 9 -   Breakfast on own followed by a 9:30am departure for the Downton Abbey Exhibit.  This is an hour long self-guided tour.  Afterwards, we travel throughout the scenic Estate grounds to the famous Biltmore Winery and Antler Hill Village where you have time for free wine-tastings, shopping,  exploration of turn of the century farm life or lunch on your own.

We return to the hotel where you can rest up for the evening or you can walk across the street or use the hotel shuttle to explore Biltmore Village.

5:45pm - Dinner in the Stable Cafe at Biltmore

6:45pm - Candlelight Christmas at Biltmore.  Enjoy this amazing tour of the 250 room Biltmore House!

I love to travel so in my partially retired life I decided to adapt my passion for travel along with 25 years of experience in Travel & Tourism to create Trips by Patty. I received a BA in American History from UNC-Chapel Hill. Not knowing what I was going to do with that degree, I started working as a desk clerk at a hotel in Raleigh. I enjoyed the hotel business and the career path began. Hotel operations and sales, Convention Center operations and marketing, destination marketing with a Convention Visitors Bureau and even a stint as a tour guide. What happened to the history degree? Well, many times when I am escorting my trips I share the history of the destinations we visit. It's a great feeling to take your career skills and adapt them to your own small business. I love what I do and hope you'll join me on a trip one day!

For me, there was not enough information given about the house and the man that built it. We spent the better part of two days in the bus traveling and only spent about two hours touring the house. And for me, but not my wife, there was way too much time allotted for shopping. I can appreciate those who enjoyed the Downton Abbey display, but I had not watched the tv show and would much rather spent time in the Biltmore house or on the grounds. I did get some information from photographs and writings on the wall of the hotel and from the lecture in the church in the village. But, with so much to learn, I did not think we allocated our time efficiently. Jim Gunther

We had a great time. Very organized and the lights were terrific.
This trip was alot of fun. Patty did a great job organizing this event. Looking forward to another trip in 2020.
This was a fun trip. We had a great time with friends and thoroughly enjoyed the experience at Mike's Farm. Patty did a great job organizing this trip for us!
A fun experience. We would definitely go again. The southern cooking was plentiful and delicious. We were excited to see a patriotic and religious light show. A great family outing.
